Roku H.264 datasheet

Hi, Does the Roku support H.264 with HIGH profile and level 4.0 ? I transcoded an mp4 file with Elgato Turbo.264 HD using High profile and level 4.0 and then used ffmpeg to convert it back to MpegTS. The ffmpeg was complaining about a missing option and I added this option: -vbsf h264_mp4toannexb to...

Re: Start playing movie delay

Hi, I did some testing between my Roku and my local http server as the streaming server. I create the m3u8 index file with just one file into it in a live broadcast mode. The Roku plays the file perfectly and does so without any issues. But I'm discovering the Roku has a delay of about 5 seconds bet...

Re: Start playing movie delay

Kevin, Why does the unit has to wait to completely download 3 segments before starting to play the video? I can modify the segments time, but I feel that 3 seconds is way too short and I'm not sure how much bandwidth tax will be added with 3x times more headers to download. Could Roku add a config i...

Re: Roku in a private IP network

Hi, One way to resolve this issue in a private network would be to have the Roku Box to download their config file containing the channel information from a central provisioning server controlled by the service provider. The Roku box could download the file using the tftp or http protocol. The confi...

Start playing movie delay

Hi, Is there a way to tell the video player to start playing an HLS file as soon as it received the first MPEG-TS file with 10 seconds of video? I think the player downloads 30 seconds (or more) worth of video before starting to play the content. For someone who wants to broadcast live video feeds, ...

Re: Roku in a private IP network

Hey wlh99, If the customer needs to install our channel behind a private network, they won't be able to communicate with Roku's network to get he channel. Am I right? When they install the box for the first time, they would need access to the internet to enable the box. What do you think? Stephan Mo...

Roku in a private IP network

Hi, We are looking to design and deploy our new IPTV solution but we need to install the Roku on a private network with no internet access. The Roku STB will be installed on a separate VLAN of our ADSL2+ connections and will communicate with our servers on the same VLAN. This is needed to reduce our...

Re: Loss of audio when fast forwarding with HLS

Kevin,

I found the problem. The file was poorly encoded. I tested with another file properly encoded and the rewind and forward works perfectly.

Thank you,

Re: Vividas Java player with Roku

Hey Markn, I saw the specs from their website: http://www.vividas.com/support/ I couldn't find any information on the codec they use with their services. So not 100% sure if they use VP6 or not. But even at 1.8Mbps, it's still quite less than MPEG-TS with H.264 to stream 1280x720 (HD 720P). Stephan ...

Re: Vividas Java player with Roku

Or maybe Vividas could license Roku the video codec instead of using the Java player? It's a very interesting high compression codec. Checkout a movie trailer sample using Vividas player: http://video.vividas.com/CDN1/auto_launch/launchclip.html?clipToPlay=http://video.vividas.com/CDN2/4502_ghostrid...

Re: New feature: Display Incoming call on TV screen

Kevin,

I suggested to use the SIP protocol since it would be very easy for VoIP providers to implement this notification service on the Roku box.

New feature: Display Incoming call on TV screen

It would be awesome if we could display the callerid information of all incoming telephone calls (from a VoIP provider using SIP protocol) on the top of the TV screen. It could easily done using some SIP software stack that would display callerid information on the TV screen. It would never answer o...

Vividas Java player with Roku

Hi, I was wondering if the Roku team would be interested to allow Vividas Java player to be included or run on the Roku STB? Check out Vividas: http://www.vivdas.com/ We can stream a full movie in HD720P at 740kbps using Vividas Java player on Windows and Mac systems. The video and audio quality is ...

Loss of audio when fast forwarding with HLS

Hi, I'm testing my ROKU device with the basic SimpleVideoPlayer application. I created a m3u8 file and everything is running great if I just play the movie. If I pause and then restart the movie, every works fine too. But if I start fast forwarding or rewinding the same movie, I loose the audio for ...
