It was a good run while it lasted.... Agree with all of this, even though it does read rather like an obituary. Les. Grim reading indeed. Although I jumped ship a while ago I've been dropping in here from time to time to see if there have been any exciting new developments. I'm sad to see that noth...

@tbanting - As you're in the uk, is your Soundbridge a Pinnacle one? If so, you need to carefully evaluate any NAS that claims to have a built in iTunes compatible server. Most of these use mt-daapd (Firefly) 0.2.4 (the current stable release) which doesn't work with the Pinnacle Soundbridge. If you...

IIRC, Buffalo is now only using ARM processors, unless you simply get a hold of very old stock somehow (eg. HGLAN). Thanks, wideasleep1. One of the wiki pages I saw implied that, but I really couldn't just be sure -- I'm not the biggest fan of Circuit City, but it's an OK impulse purchase. At some ...

Did you try resetting the sysconfig area as I suggested?

I lost a slug in a similar manner due to a very exotic dhcp bug in the Linksys firmware. The symptoms were exactly what you were seeing. Simply reflashing won't fix this type of problem.

When I was trying to sort out my wireless troubles I trialled a WPN824. I wasn't impressed with its mixed mode performance. I seem to remember seeing lots of packet loss although I was seeing much better range than 6 feet. Anyway I ended up buying some cheap Buffalo routers, as per wideasleep1's sug...

I believe the version of Firefly running on the Synology NAS is mt-daapd-0.2.4. This is your problem. That version of Firefly is very old and doesn't support the RSP protocol that the Pinnacle Soundbridge uses to communicate with Firefly. You'll either need to find a way of installing Firefly on th...

One of the forum members (bawbagg) on the Firefly forums has posted a firefly install guide for the Linkstation Live. I wanted to draw attention to this as the install appears straightforward and doesn't involve a firmware flash so it's a good option for beginners or those daunted by an nslu2 instal...

I know this isn't exactly your field, but I was hoping to use Itunes or Musicmatch as a media server on the Maxtor - is this feesible given that you say teh Maxtor come with a server installed? You won't be able to install iTunes or Musicmatch directly on the Maxtor. However you will be able to ser...

What you're seeing is very strange. What happens when you disable UPNP? Failing that can you go back to a nightly from a while back e.g. 1498?

I am having issues with FF. Crashed again while scanning (I must have some bad file in the mp3's). Now I cant get it to start running again. Can you post to the firefly forum here about this or to fireflymediaserver.org. Ron or someone can probably help you debug. Their first suggestion will be to ...

I'm not sure what's going on here but I have seen some stuff like this before. Here are a couple of observations; 1. If I boot my slug when my drive is spun down the slug fails to detect it. Try powering your drive on just before you power the slug. 2. I have seen unslung take a long time to boot (s...

Any ideas on this one? Sorry I couldn't be of help earlier, I'm on holiday at the moment without regular internet access. Glad you got the slug going though! What your seeing is probably a Firefly / mp3 file issue rather than anything to do with the slug itself. If you haven't already done so then ...

All I'm stuck on now is mapping the slug to a drive letter, it just will not play and I have a horrible sinking feeling I should've done that before unslinging? The share creation functionality isn't changed by the unslinging process. Make sure that the user you are connecting to the share as is a ...

Good luck. The best advice I can give you is to take your time and follow the Firefly wiki guide and the unslung install guide very carefully.

That'll have been smallnetbuilder or THG networking. I think Jim Buzzbee figured out a way to get telnet going on R63 by a passwd file hack. I seem to remember that it's a little convoluted. Easier just to flash unslung....
