Re: Hotel access via wireless that requires terms of use

I think a previous poster nailed it best ... bandwidth will be the limiting factor. More and more, I'm finding doing things beyond email in hotel rooms is problematic. I was all set this weekend to test roku with a router and hub i brought. Wireless bandwidth was so bad I was unable to run the test.

Re: Hotel access via wireless that requires terms of use

Awesome. I'll give it a try. I've got a small netbook we travel with as well.

Thanks!

Re: How do I play my home media via Roku?

Exactly. And in response to why I'm stunned it doesn't play local media, this is the response I received from someone in Roku Customer Service on July 1: "The Roku digital video player supports both H.264/MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1 codec." That is how/why I thought Roku would play local media. It...

Re: Hotel access via wireless that requires terms of use

I'm a newbie here and trying to get my arms around this. Can you walk me through your hotel setup with the router? I have an old linksys WRT54GS. You plug that into the ethernet in the hotel room and run Roku wireless from that. Is it just setup as an access point? If the hotel doesn't have ethernet...

Re: How do I play my home media via Roku?

This box is rather new from them. They don't need to design a new box, other than to generate sales. This is something that could take place easily via a firmware upgrade or adding a channel that could be directed to our local storage (remember it already sees the local network since you have to aut...

Re: How do I play my home media via Roku?

Nope. Good points about the limitations of the other boxes. One in particular is the native wi-fi in Roku. As I've said, it is a terrific box. But to be a true media player, this is basic functionality that could/should be added natively. It would make it the killer box and make the others an aftert...

Re: How do I play my home media via Roku?

Partially, a bad assumption and leap that it would be similar to all the other media players (i've yet to come across a media player, other than Roku, that does not have the ability to access your home media files). I also emailed support about what file formats they supported (following up my assum...

Re: How do I play my home media via Roku?

Thanks for the detailed answers. My primary goals were really having Netflix and my local media. In researching it, I'm aware that there is no perfect box (although the Asus products get incredibly high marks but have no Netflix ... deal breaker there). I love the Roku box. I just want my local medi...

How do I play my home media via Roku?

I've been told that the Roku media player won't play any of my home media that resides on my PC and/or NAS. Is that really true? I'm just stunned I may have to return this for another media player. Please tell me there is a somewhat easy/automatic way around this. Thanks.

FLV Support

Why won't Roku support FLV files? It is pretty much becoming a standard format on the web.
