Re: Roku extreme performance degradation

It might also help to identify what troubleshooting steps you have tried and how you have the Roku connected to the network (Ethernet or wifi). In your OP you mentioned you have fought with it for about a year but did you have reliable service before that? If so, has anything changed equipment-wise...

Re: Roku extreme performance degradation

Hmm, well, I am not really sure how the length of the HDMI cable really impacts the troubleshooting. My point was that given the same infrastucture, a tablet streams great and a Roku does not. If anything, an uber-long HDMI would impact tablet performance, which is where it was used. So can two devi...

Roku extreme performance degradation

We've been rather fighting our Roku player (older model) for a few years. We use it almost exclusively for Netflix watching. Can't remember the last time it actually pulled up an HD signal and stayed at HD for more than a few minutes. Then it re-samples, drops to 4 or 3 dots, then inevitably to 2. T...

Powering a wireless adaptor off Roku?

probably a stupid Q but... I have the Roku HD unit that has some occassional reception issues since it is a fair distance from my router. I also have a USB wireless adaptor (Linksys wireless-G) from an older PC. My thought was to use the adaptor to add some signal gain to the Roku - but of course th...

Roku XD extends wireless range?

We bought a Roku HD a couple of months ago. We have a love/hate relationship with it. It resides next to our TV (main floor, back of house) and our wireless router is in home office (upper floor, front of house). These locations are fixed. Our Roku frequently re-samples, or buffers, or recalibrates,...

Re: Slow, Bad image quality - Roku or Netflix?

So, back to my original query...I am looking for alternative explanations as well. Is it possible that the distance between my router and roku is great enough that it has to re-request pieces of the stream frequently, slowing the process? I use a laptop regularly in the same room as the Roku, althou...

Re: Slow, Bad image quality - Roku or Netflix?

Finished too quickly... So, we have now cancelled (well, seriously downgraded) our Cable service with Comcast. Since they are also my ISP and I will need to complain to them about poor service, how can I expect any effort to resolve the problem on their part? I mean, I am asking them for a service i...

Re: Slow, Bad image quality - Roku or Netflix?

Thanks. Things have deteriorated since yesterday. I just had a really frustrating experience where I tried to watch ANYTHING off Roku. I tried Netflix and could not get anything to load. The progress bar would either NEVER start, or it would get to about 30% and stall for 5 minutes. So I tried a cou...

Re: Slow, Bad image quality - Roku or Netflix?

Thanks for the tip on speed assessment. My ISP is Comcast, I use a cable hookup. The test results are as follows. To me it looks like for larger data streams, the download speed increases and seems to average over 5MB/sec, which I would suspect is pretty decent. Can somebody indicate if they seem lo...

Slow, Bad image quality - Roku or Netflix?

I have been reading the "gripe" threads here but can't tell whether there is any known cause for image degradation, or better yet, a resolution? Tried to watch a newer HD movie last night on Netflix/Roku HD. (The Taking of Pelham 123). It took forever to load, then showed two dots (at othe...

Re: Clarification on hooking Roku to SS system

I ended up using optical audio from Roku to Sound system, and all works as expected. Now if only I could get a decent movie image during the times I want to watch movies....sheesh.

Clarification on hooking Roku to SS system

Hi all I have perused the various entries here, and wanted to ask a few questions before I start attacking the mass of cables that lives behind my various Av components. We are using our new Roku HD connected to Samsung LCD via HDMI. We have a Samsung Home Theater system (HT-X70) we would like to us...
