Re: Availibility in Canada

Those of us who have been around the block more than a few times remember the original reason for creating forums ... to provide users with an opportunity to receive assistance from either the host or other users. In my brief time as a user on Roku Forums, the silence from Roku has been deafening. M...

Re: Availibility in Canada

I think it's much more plausible that Roku has a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in place with Netflix that doesn't allow them to publicly discuss upcoming Netflix features. I like your thinking. This is indeed a plausible explanation. And you certainly may be right. Nevertheless, it strikes me as u...

Re: Availibility in Canada

@ kc8pql Your comment isn't helpful. Did you really think it would be perceived as such? And do you have a personal stake in this? Clearly, there are a lot of customers in this forum who believe that Roku needs to show a little more respect to customers who acted on their commitments to support the ...

Re: Availibility in Canada

I've been puzzling over Roku's unwillingness to post their plans in this forum. Here's the most plausible explanations I've come up with. 1. Roku is on the verge of bankruptcy When Roku first got into the business of providing internet-enabled set-top boxes, there were few competitors. Now the consu...

Re: Netflix through Roku in Canada

Netflix is available in Canada -- has been for almost a month now. Both Netflix and Roku have indicated (verbally) that Roku needs to upgrade their firmware for the service to work on their boxes. Trouble is, Roku isn't making any commitment to doing so. Interestingly, there are many other "box...

Re: Availibility in Canada

I agree. I've been trying to get a clear answer out of them since the Netflix Canada launch. The only answer I've been able to get is "maybe". Kinda disappointing, since in a previous post (http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?t=16718) they said that "of course" they would suppor...

Re: Roku in Canada

@bc24 Netflix said this to me when I called them. Roku also confirmed that they (Roku) needed to update the firmware of their boxes to support the service. (Currently, the box only connects to the US server, which has a significantly different "architecture" than the Canadian one. For exam...

Re: Roku in Canada

Actually, it is in Roku's hands. Sony's PS3 works nicely with the Canadian Netflix, as does the Nintendo WII. So too does the newly released Apple TV. For the Roku to work, Roku needs to update its firmware. Netflix has confirmed this, as has Roku. Trouble is, Roku is not making any commitment to do...

Re: Roku in Canada

@moviegeek I understand all that. I'm looking for a commitment from Roku that they DO plan to support the Canadian service. A previous postings by them in this forum (http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?t=16718) indicated that Roku would "of course" support service in Canada if launched. ...

Roku in Canada

I purchased a Roku N1100 while I was in Boston last summer in anticipation of Netflix launching in Canada. Netflix did indeed launch here on September 22 but to my disappointment, my Roku won't work with the Canadian version. Calls and emails to Technical Support have been unhelpful. What's the chan...
