https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/Video - Closed Caption Fields

That is the roku Wiki SDK site - so bookmark that and you might find it helpful to read everything.

Re: Possible to create "overlay" apps?

One roku can run one app.  So to run two apps you either need to use two rokus, or you need to get the channel code of what you want to overlay and merge it into your existing main app to display on top of it's regular screens.  So yes.  I am sure.  Nobody has NetFlix with a Twitter app running on t...

Re: Define XML component in Brightscript?

I did try doing this with the video component, defining/creating it entirely from brightscript without a single XML reference. Now perhaps I did something wrong, but doing it this way resulted in a video that only played audio, didn't have any trickplay capability/bif files visible, and other issues...

Re: Community engagement/transparency

Hey, perhaps Roku could provide that level of support and interactive feedback, if they wanted to have a 'premium developer fee' like Apple and Microsoft does.  Say $300 you would pay per year to develop on Roku and get one-on-one support with internal Roku employees.  What do you think?

Re: Community engagement/transparency

If you worked for Roku themselves, internally, you would get that level of support.  But we're just little people making apps and sometimes participating in their open beta test system.

Re: Eclipse plugin limitations

Notepad is really good - hard to top that.  It has "find" AND "replace" too as well as jumping to line numbers and noted comments.  I just love Notepad.  And it only takes up about 200 KB on the drive so I can even use that on an old 30-year old laptop too.  Also XI is awesome if...

Re: XML playlist

If you encode with mpeg-dash then all of that is in the manifest and you can still give roku a single link to the manifest file (one for x264 and a second link for x265)
One thing about progressive MP4s is we recently learned the links provided MUST be from lowest bitrate to highest bitrate.

Re: Right-to-left (RTL) Languages Support

Without seeing the actual test display, source text and resulting full text, I can simply suggest - assuming that there is a space between each letter and two or three spaces between words now in the resulting produced output - A) run your routine as you have it now B) take the resulting returned st...

Re: Do not understand deep linking requirement

Not too strange - with all the coverage of streaming services and hardware under attack to police pirated content, the ability for Roku to go in and view anything on any channel without needing to look for it makes perfect sense to me.  Also if you ever do want to implement global search on the Roku...

Re: Architectural best practices

Why would you have 50 screens?  Would the end user have to go through all 50 of them to do one thing? Generally you have layers, and four or 5 actual screens, where the content is simply changed as needed when they are displayed.  If you are linking the device with full account and billing interacti...

Re: "Missing or invalid PHY"

That would be a notice about a missing thumbnail image.  If you have a graphic resource like HDPosterURL or SDPosterURL set to anything beside 'invalid', or to an inaccessible url then you will get those.  It could also be reported for the overhang url images or some other image, but typically it wi...

Re: How to Scroll Focused Rowlist Label Text

You should be able to set the default "repeatcount" to 0 so they will all be set to not scroll, and then set to -1 for the focused list after display.  Alternately set the "scrollspeed" to 0. https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/ScrollingLabel One of those two should do what y...

Re: Appear to focusing on the 2nd item of a RowList??

Basically you want to set the "focusXOffset" for the rowlist.  Try setting the offset to half of your hdposter thumbnail width.
focusXOffset="[135]"
