... and if you don't want your presets to be lost, use SB-sync. That's a small tool to backup and restore your presets I wrote. Backup your presets before resetting to factory defaults and afterwards just save them back to your soundbridge with a click of a button. Get it from http://www.justmytwoce...

I'm glad there are still people who find my little app useful. As it seems, Roku are not going to further develop the SoundBridge, so unfortunately it's rather unlikely that I will be able to implement any substantial new features (I would really like to, but therefor Roku would have to update their...

An ethernet switch would be the easiest and cheapest solution. That way you can connect more than one device to your router.

I don't know as it's as unsafe as it sounds here. I hardly change any settings, but I always put my SB "to sleep" by cutting the power using an fm power switcher. Never had any issues so far - although I don't use wifi, my SB is connected via ethernet. So, yes, there is no real power switc...

Now it does indeed make more sense. But I'm afraid, it'll not work quite the way you proposed to do it. If you set a 192.168.x.y address for your wireless adapter and a 192.168.x.z address for the ethernet adapter, there's one problem: How should the computer know on which adapter to find say 192.16...

I don't quite understand however it's not on the network that the laptop it's hard wired to is on. But all this ip address setting thing only makes sense, if all devices (in your case that's your soundbridge and your computer) are "on the same network". That means, they all use addresses f...

Yes, the sb should answer to ping requests! But if it doesn't that makes the whole thing even weirder seeing that you were able to telnet to it...

Hmm, you didn't set a password in firefly? I don't mean the admin password, though...

It doesn't (well, shouldn't) make a difference whether you connect via cable or wifi, so there must have been another change somewhere.

Anybody else?

Very good! And by the way, what made the difference?

The connection failed message sounds a bit like a firewall problem. Did you allow incoming connections to firefly in your firewall configuration?

That's strange. Let's see... The greeting message and the prompt look something like this: Welcome to the SoundBridge Shell version 3.0.52 Release Type '?' for help or 'help <command>' for help on <command>. SoundBridge> and that's where you enter the ipset command. Did you: 1.) check the ip address...

You'll have to set your SoundBridge to a static IP address.

http://soundbridge.roku.com/support/static_ip.php describes how to do this.

Whether the file(s) you unsuccessfully try to play is/are of an unsupported type or not I can't tell; you forgot to mention which one it is! However, a quick browse through the soundbridge product pages on the roku hp would have provided the answer to your second question. In case you didn't find it...
