I'm sure the hi-priced lawyer has told'em it's a boiler-plate set of TOS, too! That is the problem. There is a lot of boiler plate where no thought is given to it, and it really provides no useful protection to Roku, it merely annoys any of their users who read it. But as both a lawyer and an engin...

I don't know how other people use it, but I program in my preset stations myself and never use the Roku list. But that is beside the point. To make a long story short, I bought a piece of hardware. While I have no problems agreeing to not reverse-engineer it to make knockoffs, the liability problems...

Mike, I often do not agree to the indemnification provisions of websites. They are very open-ended, and do not even require that I commit the violation, just that my password is used. And any hacker could get that. I. Indemnification You agree to indemnify, hold harmless and defend Roku, its officer...

My kids are beyond age 13 and no longer at home. But the indemnity part (you agree to pay all their costs and damages) would curl your hair if you read it carefully. In this age of political correctness, who knows how it would be interpreted? At the moment, just playing music probably would not caus...

How to stop upgrade offer on M500?

Every day, my M500 asks me whether I want to upgrade to the latest firmware. But I don't like the TOS. How do I stop the upgrade requests?

An uninterruptible power supply would very likely fix it. The APC's are good. Or if you want lightning protection as well as noise elimination, the only way to go is with a series filter. The typical MOV shunt types in the power strips don't do much. http://www.zerosurge.com/residential.html I have ...

Guess what? Mute again on power-up

After sitting idle for over a week, my M1001 was muted again on power up. The display was working fine, and a station was apparently playing OK, but no sound through the analog outputs. Curiously, merely unplugging the DC power plug from the M1001 did not solve the problem. I had to unplug the AC ad...

Re: The End of Internet Radio? (at least from the U.S.)

This all seems puzzling to me (other than the obvious greed of the RIAA). Anyone, including an internet radio broadcaster, can go to the store and buy a pile of CD's or download DRM protected music they purchased from an internet music outlet such as iTunes, MusicMatch, Napster, even Wal-Mart. The ...

I tried several of the betas of 2.7 INCLUDING the final release and I am disappointed to see that the audio mute problem was not fixed. I don't think the audio mute problem ever occurred on the M500, which is what the OP has. I have both the M500 and the M1001, and the mute only affected the latter...

I suppose they are doing something more than just throwing away bits, since that would give them 6 dB volume steps, whereas they get 0.1 dB steps. So it is probably re-sampling of some sort. But in terms of quality loss, it may not be much better than what Roku is doing. In my opinion, a lot of the ...

Thanks for the information. By "truncation", I am referring to dropping the least significant bits, not the most significant bits, which would be a real problem. Sometimes the high-end manufacturers like to claim that it is a poor way of controlling the volume, since obviously you lose pre...

If you are connecting optically you MUST connect at 100% to prevent the Roku polluting the digital signal. I assume you mean that they truncate the digital signal at the input of the DAC to control the volume. But how do most receivers with a digital input control the volume? If it is the same way,...

Re: soundbridge mute

Yes, I disconnected the analog. And the power has always been plugged into a surge protector. I have used the optical output for the last three days with no problems. With the analog output, I would often get the muting when coming out of standby after leaving it off overnight. Maybe it is just a c...

......i have only ever used the coax out (apart from testing once with the analogue connection to try and prove the fault). On no occasion have the connections been made simultaneously. I think the coax out would have the same problem as the analog out, since there is a metallic connection to anoth...

Re: soundbridge mute

My one month old M1001 mutes at least once a day. No real pattern. May mute on startup, after 10 secs, or four hours. Wired ethernet. Analog out or optical no difference, radio or library same thing. When it is working it's wonderful. Disappointing to say the least! When you use the optical output,...
