Help setting up s share

Soiaf, Even though my laptop could not ping the PB, I tried to find shares on the laptop, but to no avail. Lights on the ethernet bridge did at least flicker... In answer to your questions, the ethernet bridge was tested in the same room as the PB, and the signal strength is quite good. As a further...

Hel psetting up a share

Soaif,

I got the correct static IP on the PB. When I tried to ping it, however, it timed out.

So what does that tell you?

Need help setting up a share

Soiaf, Unplugging the PB from the entertainment center is more trouble than I'm willing to undertake at the moment. And I did try the reboot, but to no avail. So let's assume that timeout is the issue. What information do you need to write that script, and just as importantly, with great specificity...

Help setting up a share

That might be difficult. I'll have to look carefully tonight at how hard it would be to get at the power strip to unplug, and then replug, the power cord. That, or I need to get a 80 foot ethernet cable. Hypothetically, if a timeout issue isn't the problem, what then? What info would you need to wri...

Help setting up a share

THE PB is connected to a Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Bridge plugged into the ethernet port. I have a laptop that uses a wireless card to connect to a Netgear WGR614 router. I used the laptop to configure the Linksys bridge. I confirmed that the bridge was properly configured by physically removing the...

Help setting up a share

Soiaf,

How would I know if it's getting an IP address? What would that be an IP address of?

Thanks.

Help setting up a share

na9d, I went back to the C: drive, selected the New Share button, and gave the new share the name "yada." A little icon appeared next to the C: drive in Windows Explorer. PB still doesn't find it. And this time I unplugged the DSL cable, as a prior person suggested. I wonder about the wire...

Help setting up a share

You noted that C$ is an administrative share. What's the significance of that? Regardless, I went to My Documents and configured it for sharing. You noted specifically "PUBLIC" sharing, though I don't see any flavors of sharing to select from. Clicking on the "permissions" button...

Help setting up a share

OK, you folks talked me into it, and I've upgraded to 2.0. So, now I'm faced with an interface that looks just the same. What now? I've tried to scan, but not unsurprisingly the PB didn't find anything. Somebody please step me through the process of getting the PB to recognize any drive or folder on...

Need help setting up a share

I'm running 1.5 something. Why should it matter? The insructions were written for this version of software. This version of software is supposed to support sharing, right? If you really think it's going to make a difference I'll download the new 2.0 beta, but it will be yet another layer of hassle a...

Need help setting up a share

OK, I'm baffled. The WinXPSharing.pdf makes the process seem so simple, and yet it isn't. Perhaps that's all it takes to configure a folder to be shared, but how do you get it to be seen from the Roku PB? I've gone to Network Shares and I seem to have three options: Manually Configure a Share (which...

OK, then, what am I doing wrong? I'm following the instructions in the RokuWIFI.pdf I downloaded, which instructs me to go to the setup menu, get to the Wireless page, and then enter the SSID and password. Are you saying that it is sufficient to plug a properly configured bridge into the ethernet po...

setting up a wireless-G bridge

My home network presently uses WPA-PSK security and requires a 63bit password. Am I correct in assuming that I will have to switch to WEP in order to enter the password in the setup of the HD1000?
