Re: Roku 2 XS Dual-Band Wireless?

Like it or not, it seems the be the current trend for mainstream products... even the revised Xbox 360, which now has embedded wireless, dropped the 5 Ghz support that both the previous generation's external plug-in external wireless adapters had. At least it's better than the Sony PS3 which still h...

Re: "Official" USB channel discussion

Nice addition, Roku. The UI experience is a little slow, but it works. Video playback doesn't even intermittently stutter/judder like the glorious H.264 decoding on Apple TV 2. :D

Yes, it's very simplistic. It only works if Genre is set to Classical.

Yes, Firefly can run on Windows Home Server. In fact, HP's Media Smart Server comes with it pre-installed. That's what it uses for it's embeded iTunes server. It works fine with SoundBridge. And yes, it can transcode FLAC to LPCM/WAV.

"iTunes Plus" isn't exactly new... they offered a tiny portion of iTunes in unprotected AAC format before. And yes, it works fine with the SoundBridge. Of course, it's a little late... Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody, Zune, Walmart, etc. have been offering universally compatible MP3 files for a ...

Re: genres preceeded by number not listed on library

What you see listed on the Roku SoundBridge is almost entirely driven by the server software you are using. So, you'll likely need to follow up with Lacie and/or the Twonky folks. I have a couple of Genres with numbers at the beginning, served by both Firefly and Windows Media Player 11. FYI. (Both ...

Firefly has no requirement of using the iTunes database. It can parse out content metadata from MP3, WMA, M4A, FLAC, OGG, etc. audio files directly.

Either way, you'll still be using the Roku SoundBridge native UI.... Browse/Search by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Composer... or Playlist.

You should see the tracks under both Album Artist and (Song/Contributing) Artist if using Windows Media Player 11 as your server. So, if your Album Artist is "Various Artists" and your song artist is "Elvis Presley"... you can find the song listed under both Various Artists and E...

No. The former Twonky product is fairly poor, especially as an audio server; it's biggest claim to fame is broad server platform support.

Only buy 'iTunes Plus' songs (not protected), or shop elsewhere... like Amazon MP3, which is 100% unprotected. Apple will not license it's DRM.

SoundBridge only supports WM-DRM, which various non-Apple stores use... especially for all-you-can-listen-to subscription services.

The server is completely responsible for what you see. Try another server product if you can't get support from our friends at Twonky/PacketVideo.

If you are using Windows Media Player 11, just turn on UPnP AV sharing. Or install Firefly.

So, are you really using WMC? Old WMC is no longer supported by Microsoft. It's functionality was replaced by Windows Media Player 11's integrated UPnP AV server on XP and Vista. If you are not there, consider upgrading. (I'm not saying it'll fix your specific problem... but you should likely get to...

Yeah, many NAS boxes use Firefly/mt-daapd... but pre-loading it on a Windows based box (WHS) isn't that common.

WHS runs an an earlier release of WMC, the UPnP AV sharing service that is included as part of WMP 11. It should work out of the box. HP's Windows Home Servers (MediaSmart Server?) also comes with Firefly pre-installed (not advertised as Firefly, of course... it's an 'iTunes server'), which also wor...
