Re: Fonts weights and documentation

Drawing text in the same place with the same size on the same buffer also increases the 'weight' that is displayed on the screen. Really? Does this effect happen with fully opaque text? I have overwritten multiple transparent images and the result on screen is less transparency which could be mista...

Re: Custom Interface

Agreed with everything that has been said. When you develop your own interface, please remember the remote buttons available may be more limited than what you have on your just-purchased Roku box. In particular, many roku remotes do not have the "back" button, nor the "*" (info) ...

Re: Custom Interface

The standard roPosterScreen is not significantly different than the ASCII art you posted. The biggest hurdle is probably the Menu Buttons. I suggest trying a simple roPosterScreen You LOGO is "<company logo>" and your "SEARCH BTN" and "three "BTN" can be <Categorie...

Re: Developing a Channel

There is an Eclipse plugin, but I use Notepad++. Just a few extra steps for deploying the side channel for every code iteration during development.

Re: Caching data to limit requests to API

In general, yes I would guess that developers are storing per session to the local file system. Whether you need a cache or not all depends on the exact use of the data (and whether you want it to refresh or not while the channel is running...imagine a channel running all night, for example). roImag...

Re: roScreen/roImageCanvas Image Fitting Problem

With roScreen you would read the binary file into a roBitmap, then use DrawScaleObject with bm.GetWidth() and bm.GetHeight() With roImageCanvas you would use TargetRect. Which should work if already have the aspect ratio. You can get width and height and calculate aspect ratio of a local image file ...

Re: Caching data to limit requests to API

I think the only solution is the roRegistry, limited to 16KBytes.

Glad you got it working. Setting Development mode is also in the developer's guide.

Did you turn on development mode on the Roku after the reset?

Re: Category Selector and other UI components

You are right. roScreen is a separate screen that in general cannot be used underneath other *Screen* objects and there are no "parts" that can be assembled and used on an roScreen. You would have to create usable parts separately. roScreen is designed mostly for custom UI where you want f...

Re: Need help with slightly modified Scroll SDK example

Looking at the comments, I had to review your code again. I didn't see at first where in the code you are retaining the bitmaps in memory. Being able to load only 4 or 5 is indicative of retaining the bitmaps in memory. It's also indicative of allocating larger and larger bitmaps with intervening ob...

Re: Need help with slightly modified Scroll SDK example

TL;DR Try allocating the msg port right after allocating the roScreen and outside the loop. This may help in keeping memory from being fragmented. Here is the reference guide on Garbage Collection . Objects are de-allocated when they are assigned invalid; more precisely: when their reference count g...

Re: Need help with slightly modified Scroll SDK example

I have found that a Roku 1 is a little more sensitive to memory allocation issues: you have to be careful in what order you allocate and de-allocate large bitmaps. I'm not sure that's what is going on with your code, though.
