Re: Eclipse as a development tool?

Did I say the operators were faster? Less typing-that's about it. The point was that the plugin generally lags behind the technology. As far as eclipse vs any other environment that is a matter of preference. I have used it from the start so for me it's the best we have. On the other hand I get the ...

Re: Eclipse as a development tool?

Sounds like you have given up already. Nothing is that easy. The new Scene Graph will give you some brain fog as well. I'm 62 workout everyday and still love to learn new things. Well you are almost there: when you get to the open perspective then select other , then select brightscript from the lis...

Re: Eclipse as a development tool?

https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/Eclipse+Plugin+Guide This will give you a general overview. There are some frustrating quirks, the new plugin keeps loosing the IP address of the box so you may have to retype it in when you export to the box, at least on ROKU 4. There still is no support for ...

Re: Eclipse as a development tool?

It all depends upon what you are going to do. Eclipse is an integrated development environment. You have everything you need in one nice package. With the introduction of Scene Graph, ROKU development has become more intricate. For example, a task node runs on its own thread. Each node requires its ...

Re: Modal over roScreen has black background

roScreen is not compatible with standard components. Its a bit tricky to use both roScreen and the standard components in the same application. If the roScreen is on top of a standard component then there is no problem. Just invalidate it to return control to the component stack. But to place a stan...

It causes a number of devices to crash. Not good for a streaming environment that is somewhat mature

People have been reporting this for last couple of days. Don't know why ROKU has not responded. If you don't have a backup then your sunk.

Re: Populate a LabelList from server data using Scene Graph

One more thing. Optimization for scene graph is different due to threads. If memory serves me correctly there are differences in passing/assigning by value or reference. I believe that some of the larger data structures such as an AA may be copied instead of referenced. So the whole thing can really...

Re: Populate a LabelList from server data using Scene Graph

Since each task node runs on its own thread you need to open telnet sessions using ports specified in the docs. They do not use the main thread on which the debugger resides. You can use print statements and they can display what is in content. I try to avoid XML as much as possible and do everythin...
