Device "sleep" and wifi keep-awake

Now that I have a (TCL) Roku TV, I've learned that my former Roku box was basically always on and always keeping its wifi connection alive (but only drawing a watt or two in order to do so), while the default setting for Roku TV is to go into deep sleep and drop wifi. Nice for power savings (my Kill...

Re: [Feature Request] DLNA casting

I've asked about this several years ago, then forgot about it, and now in 2019 it really seems like this has become essential for Roku to implement. Screen mirroring/casting has become a commonplace feature, but Roku's compatibility is terrible, and the common response to "buy a Chromecast"...

Re: Shutterfly app - only shows landscape view?

Well, Shutterfly tells me that they "no longer support the Roku app," so no point waiting for them to fix it  :( It appears that they used to have an API that might have allowed a third party developer to recreate a better version of the abandoned Shutterfly Roku app, but all of Google's l...

Re: Shutterfly app - only shows landscape view?

I have a pretty new TCL Roku TV and a couple standalone Roku boxes. All of them have the Shutterfly app. None of them show portrait pictures the way they are supposed to display. The app just crops it down until it’s in landscape view, so it just shows whatever’s in the middle of the picture. Is th...

Re: Which codecs are passed-through by Roku Media Player?

Well, just when I felt that I was (sorta) starting to understand things, a new mystery pops up. What I thought I finally understood is that even though my TV can decode AAC5.1 and AC3 from the antenna, for some reason it just wasn't designed to decode anything coming in over HDMI; and my old Roku ca...

Re: Wifi won't connect after power outage

What about clearing network settings on Roku. That added that in 9.0 (maybe it was 8.1). Then if that doesn’t work, a full device reset? Thanks, that (clearing network settings) sounded great; unfortunately it didn't fix it  :( Yeah, I can do full factory reset, and I guess I would if I were sure t...

Re: Wifi won't connect after power outage

Update again: Router logs show " [WLAN access rejected: incorrect security] from MAC" with my Roku's MAC address. It seems like the Roku is either attempting to negotiate encryption with the wrong protocol, or it is incorrectly encrypting the password. But only if it's the same password th...

Re: Wifi won't connect after power outage

Update: after an hour of banging my head against this, I tried changing the password on the router, and voila the Roku was able to connect. Great! Go back on the router and put the password back to what it was before, and the Roku is again unable to connect. So it will connect if I disable encryptio...

Wifi won't connect after power outage

I've had this problem (too frequently) before, and lots of rebooting stuff eventually got the Roku connected again. But it's not working this time. Every other device in my house automatically reconnected just fine. If I disable encryption on the router, then the Roku will connect, but I obviously c...

TCL Roku TV owners, are you happy with the system and support?

Both my tv and my Roku are old and ready to be replaced and it's crossed my mind to get a TCL Roku TV -- seems like a great system, and a great value on a great TV. But I'm a little concerned about Roku's habit of pushing out insufficiently tested system updates, at least as has been my experience w...

Re: Which codecs are passed-through by Roku Media Player?

What is your settings for digital audio? It usually should be left at Auto, and the Audio Mode should also be Auto. When digital audio is set to Auto, it should tell you what audio codecs the TV is telling the Roku that it can decode. rokudale I've tried lots of different combinations of audio sett...

Re: Which codecs are passed-through by Roku Media Player?

@renojim, I have played around with all of those audio settings and can’t get AAC5.1 or AC3 to play. Still not sure if it is throwing the audio away, or passing it through to the TV and the tv is failing to decode. @dan, thanks for that link. I think it clarified that AAC is never passed through, li...

Which codecs are passed-through by Roku Media Player?

On my Roku 2XS, Roku Media Player works fine with MKV having AAC stereo audio, but I get silence if the audio is AAC5.1, AC3, or DTS (consistent with  https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/Audio+and+Video+Support ). Question is Does the Roku pass-through everything that it can't decode, or only DT...

Re: Can't Access Development Mode

Just happened to me too. :(  :x   I could be wrong, but as far as I know VideoBuzz is the only app that's distributed with intention to be installed through developer mode ... if correct, then this is probably at YouTube/Google's request, or Roku proactively imagining what YouTube/Google would wish....
