Re: for those who want to check it out ....

trying it out now ... no buffering, good picture quality see how she does in prime time :) I've had Sling TV for about a year.  In the first couple of weeks there was some prime time buffering i.e. pixelation or dropped connection during The Walking Dead.  Things improved tremendously and by the en...

Re: Sling TV releases new Roku UI

Thoughts on the new UI? I plan to move to Sling once my DirecTV contract is done. Is this UI an improvement? http://cordcuttersnews.com/sling-tv-releases-new-roku-ui/ The 'favorites' and 'continue watching' are nice additions, but it looks like additions are the mane changes. Overall sling has been...

Re: Moving Art Channel no longer working

Moving Art is available on Netflix. The developer/owner, Louie Schwartzberg, has a YouTube Channel. I went to movingart.com and did a search for roku: zero hits. It is possible that he no longer supports the Roku app. There is a thread where 'dead channels' are reported: http://forums.roku.com/viewt...

Re: My Roku 3 (4200) is saying it supports 4k suddenly!

I suspect it's a glitch in the firmware, and it's showing options intended for the Roku 4 that a Roku 3 can't actually support.

Re: Remote's IR Field

Anyone with similar issues with any remote/Roku combination? My Roku 3 uses a wifi remote, works awesome. My TCL Roku TV has a very wide range, and it works if the remote is level or pointed up about 45 degrees (or more) so if you hold it naturally in your hand and it's pointed up at an angle, it s...

Re: Roku expands expands search functionality

Nice, but a lot of those require a cable subscription. It looks like cable is pushing hard to stay relevant. Hopefully CrunchyRoll will get on board soon.

Re: Not renewing HBO NOW after the trial.......heres why

Wha....???? I was just preparing to subscribe for at least a couple months to watch all of Game of Thrones seasons. But I don't get all of HBO? You can easily watch all season 6 GOT episodes in one month. I signed up for the free trial yesterday. By the time the 30 days runs out I will have watched...

Re: Ouch, why I never buy TVs for built in streaming feature

I bought my Roku TV for much less than the cost of a dumb TV of the same size. I have no reason to think that Roku smart TVs add any cost to the price of the set, compared to the cost of a dumb TV. I have a 55" TCL Roku TV and I'm very happy with it, though I wish the viewing angles were a bit ...

Re: Remotely control Roku

Do any of those options allow someone to see what's on the Roku's screen from a remote location? He has to control it AND know what he's controlling. I suppose skype could be used for that, but if mom is not technically savvy then that probably wouldn't work out well. Just curious OP, what settings ...

Re: HDR10 update on Roku 4

4K pixel resolution and High Dynamic Range are two separate issues. True, but HDR is only available for 4K and HDR is 10 bit color space, vs the traditional 8-bit color space (and some low end panels only support 6 bit and look like garbage, but I don't know if TVs are still made with 6 bit panels ...

Re: Roku showing as a Bluetooth device.

My understanding is that Bluetooth 4.0 is actually wi-fi based while low power Bluetooth is based on legacy Bluetooth. I did a quick web search and can't find anything that definitively states that as truth, but I suspect sloppy coding is allowing the Roku's combined wifi/bluetooth module to flag it...

Re: Roku ignoring millions of users with Legacy DD 5.1 Recei

Good post JohnS-MI Let's face it - it would be much easier to say "upon further review, there's some physical limitation in the chipset or firmware that unfortunately prevents us from implementing this in the Roku 4", or some such. But no one's saying that. It was left off as a corporate d...

Re: Roku ignoring millions of users with Legacy DD 5.1 Recei

People rush to defend Roku for not implementing DD+ to DD conversion, when many streaming services are using DD+ and when many AV receivers can play DD but not DD+. I think consumers should not defend Roku. I think Roku should defend itself. Imagine hooking your TV up to an antenna, and having CBS l...

Re: *Channels asking for providers to watch shows

Keep in mind that everyone's viewing habits change over time. Good shows become stale and get cancelled, or kids get a little older and their interests change. In a year or two people won't want to watch most of the shows they watch now. As others mentioned, you may want to transition slowly to avoi...
