Re: Dolby Digital 5.1 Question

I've done some digging and: ---My Samsung TV can pass Dolby Digital 5.1 via HDMI ARC Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus are two different specifications. Furthermore Dolby licensing is a mess across the board of various devices employing its technology. Thank goodness Dolby Vision is losing to HD...

Re: 2016 Roku HDTVs: upgraded processors?

I doubt that very much. Because "why?". Why would they do something unnecessary. I find the processor on the TV too slow (single core 1Ghz) . I use a R3 unit instead. 4K RokuTV (#6000) image processing requires roughly 4x more throughput than FHD RokuTV (#5000), hence better CPU is requir...

2016 Roku HDTVs: upgraded processors?

The 2014/2015 HD models had the same Sigma processor. The 4K sets now have faster processors.

But are the 2016 HD models also receiving the processor spec bump?

Re: TCL Roku TV Bugs

It is more than likely that your TV did a SW update when you first powered it up.

Although they are designed to be seamless...
Sometimes, major SW updates cause issues.
Most times, they can remedied by performing a "Factory Reset".

Re: Trade in your XS for $20 Amazon gift card

For the record, I have a Roku 2 XS, a Roku 3, and a 2016 Roku stick.. My XS doesn't at all feel ancient, other than a few channels like Netflix not running the most current software. I can still stream anything on Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Crackle, or Amazon video, Pandora, Spotify, or Google, and when ...

Re: Have to resign in too often

Not 100% but I believe that is imposed by your cable company TTto verify you still have service. Three players in the equation actually. Streaming Device (Roku, Console, Android, iOS, etc.), TV Provider (Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, Charter, etc.), and Content Provider (HBO, History, FX, National Ge...

Re: Trade in your XS for $20 Amazon gift card

People who would judge other people as hip or not hip by what streamer they prefer, or what phone they carry, especially what phone they carry, are typically self identified as hip, constantly seeking reaffirmation of their hipness from other self identified hipsters. Go take that cable modem, shin...

Re: Trade in your XS for $20 Amazon gift card

The entire notion that it's somehow noble to save newer-market segment (smartphones, tablets, streamers) devices is preposterous. The XSes don't even have the 802.11n spec. When they were released, Android phones were still on Gingerbread. Trust me, you are not viewed as "hip" carrying aro...

Re: Trade in your XS for $20 Amazon gift card

Thanks for the tip. mark For anyone who has used the both the single-core and dual-core, who has used both remotes, uses profiles on Netflix, uses YouTube, and still has one of these old XS units: Monetizing $20 out of a nearly complete junker, is a clear no-brainer. That is unless you have the AME...

Re: Trade in your XS for $20 Amazon gift card

Perhaps. But $20 for a 5 year old device is more than generous.

Besides, Amazon periodically sells the new 2016 Roku Stick for $40.
Unless Ethernet is a required, I'd say it's a mighty deal

Re: Feature Requests - Third Quarter 2016

How about Parental PIN support for Netflix app in the 2XS models? Plex supports it, so I'm sure Netflix can do it too. Netflix has to do this, just FYI. They have to update their API supporting the older versions of Netflix first. I guess they have no intentions of doing that. Roku can't do anythin...

Feature Request for the Feature Request thread: Would it be possible to be presented with a trackable list of things being requested and if they're possible or being worked on? Without revealing too much about future products. There are a few that make it every quarter and it gets redundant. 1. DD+ ...

Re: New OS Firmware 7.2 update info

Don't think Roku boxes have standby circuitry, spare for Roku 4. And btw, it's the use of IR remote that allows RokuTV to turn itself "completely" off instead of idling to listen on wifi. Whether they can completely cut the video signal is sort of a moot point. Why not simply offer an all...

Re: New OS Firmware 7.2 update info

TCL RokuTV got it today. As for the Roku 3 that's hooked up to the RokuTV, no dice. What I notice so far is an option for all black no-signal screensaver (Power Saver) on the RokuTV and additional Power options which will hopefully make it onto the Roku 3 unit. Yes, the TV's processor is slow. Yes, ...
