Wait vs Sleep

This is all just experimenting, so am curious about it... If I create a roVideoScreen page and run my event loop in a tight Port.GetMessage() loop, I can completely disable* HLS playback in the process, I assume by starving the CPU from being able to do anything else. Changing the GetMessage to a Wa...

Re: Working on roStreamSocket Roku

Heres a snippet of my code, hope it helps... Socket = CreateObject ("roStreamSocket") Port = CreateObject ("roMessagePort") Buffer = CreateObject("roByteArray") Buffer[65536]=0 IP = CreateObject("roSocketAddress") IP.SetPort(####) IP.SetHoneName("www.????...

Haven't seen the new Crackle yet, drops back to the menu screen every time I try to run it.

Re: Access to NDK for Roku

If I'm not mistaken Crackle uses the standard SDK, and the NDK is pretty much reserved for bigger companies with deeper pockets. I have to back Komag up here, a lot can be done with the standard SDK, and I can't imagine much that can't be done with the screen graph once released. Since it seems the ...

Re: Response from input query?

I'm not sure if the input parameters supply the sending IP, but it could be manually included by you and then the Roku could use sockets to send a blind message back (since what you'd send is itself an acknowledgment it shouldn't expect or wait for one back).

Orphaned objects - circular ref loop

If I intentionally use circular references, and as a result get the GC note on application close, am I doing something that the internal Roku runtime is going to choke on at a certain point? I have a core data payload that lives for the duration of the application - these records are never deleted o...

Re: list item vs button press

Heres a snippet of code in my app that deals with this, hopefully it will help: if Message.isListItemFocused() ... Record = Lists[Message.GetIndex()][Message.GetData()] ' gets the record from the gridview end if if Message.isRemoteKeyPressed() and Message.GetIndex()=10 and Record<>Invalid ShowOption...

Re: Important: Roku Developer Agreement Update

One of the docs said to contact them in such cases. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Spotify, and countless others would find that requirement completely undoable so they have some mechanism in place for it, otherwise having a service also on on iOS, the web, Fire, and so on couldn't be done under a single us...

Re: Reversing a String in BrightScript

The Mid function of strings to pull a single character can be used as your charat(), or string indexing that I use in c#. Use this in a for loop walking a string backward to get each char and create a new string char at a time from them would be quickest way I know to do this. Arabic would be an cha...

Re: ECP (query/apps)

I can confirm this. My "My Channels" channel has used query/apps and roXMLElement for years, and I've never run into a situation where I needed to add the declaration to get it to parse. I was new to BRS and might have had some other bug messing with me and accidentally fixed it tinkering...

Re: ECP (query/apps)

It was just to get it to decode. I wrote this particular routine last October if that helps date the firmware, but I couldn't get roXMLElement to parse it until I added that header, and it's worked perfectly since until version 7. I already made the change to check first, and know that I know this i...

ECP (query/apps)

I've been using the query apps ability in my channel (snippet below), and it always worked, but since the XML was missing the header, I had to manually add '<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' ?> ' to the beginning of the string to get roXMLElement to properly parse the response. Suddenly this miss...

Could someone give me a little help with the syntax and location for this in my example code?

My assumption is it's in conn.InitFeedConnection / conn.LoadFeed but I don't see those routines in the listings, just the calls.
