Should this work for ac3 audio as well? I have a DVD of "The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi battles the Pink Robot" which would be really cool to be able to play through SlimRoku this way.

I can play it through Mplay of course...

Re: How do you change video output w/o a monitor with beta?

Thanks, I tried to Telnet in, but it has a static IP address 192.168.1.XXX (linksys) and the network I had it on (d-Link router) was set to use 192.168.0.XXX. I could not telnet into the PB, is it due to the D-Link using different range of IP address? I figured it would work, but either I was wrong...

jor and leenuxg33k- I got the slug. Pretty nice little device. The web interface is clunky but that's not critical. So far so good I have a nice vantec case with a 300GB sata in it and it performs pretty well. I only got cut out when I was FTPing a bunch of data and tried to stream video - but that...

it's crap. no, you'll never be able to mount it on the roku. It doesn't use smb, uses proprietary drivers. And if that weren't bad enough, it doesn't appear to cool the drives well enough. The Linksys Slug (nslu2) running unslung 5.5 or the Buffalo Linkstation (avoid the 300gb models for now) run a...

Another vote here to focus on .19 support.

The lossless mpeg2 trancode is pretty cool, I've been using it to rip out commercials since mythroku doesn't have commercial skip support yet.

Do you lose audio with mythRoku with that method?

Re: Upgrade please!

Well it probably goes without saying, but I for one would love for you to focus on .19 and upgrade! Would be great to be able to watch TV _and_ be able to change channels ;-) /Cheers, Jelte I vote for .19 compatability. I vote for .19 as well. Especially since .19 will support this: mythtranscode *...

It's actually developed as a separate application right now. It works with ripped DVD directory structure and most (if not all) disc images. Disc images? you mean I could point it at an iso image (assuming it was decrypted) and it would play it? Thats great! Should is be easier to serve up dvd's vi...

Does this mean I can play flac files on an Soundbridge M500 without any server software other than SAMBA shares? /Kalle I don't think so.. The codec only works on the Open Platform Photo Bridge. The SoundBridge is a closed platform that can only be improved by Roku. ;-) - Sorry couldn't resist.

So much for progress

It looks like we may not get what we want as consumers in the next generation products either! Check out what the MPAA and RIAA are planning! http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060121-6025.html Basically it says if its new and innovating then its against the law. If its not new but could be used...

I'd be interested in the speed when using nfs. I know the beta firmware on infrants has some speed improvements for samba.

By keeping the product closed (ie: SoundBridge), Roku can market it more effectively and, from a service/support angle, trouble-shoot with far greater ease and clarity. It may not be as applicable anymore since cars have changed so much.. But I remember a time when DIY people could work on their ow...

I think the MPEG2 decode capability has many years of viability left. 480p DVD (using MPEG2) isn't going away for many years, even if the HD DVD wars get resolved quickly. And MPEG2 digital OTA TV is going to be around for at least a decade. Plus with tools like VLC to transcode to MPEG2 there is n...
