Re: Roku Eating 1 Gig An Hour

My question to the poster is if one isn't penalized monetarily or ones bandwidth isn't capped or restricted in anyway what's the difference how much bandwidth is being consumed? I'm with Verizon and use their FIOS service and though i don't have a 4K setup they don't care how much i use. Just askin...

Re: Roku’s new soundbar and subwoofer

Well, supporting ARC is one thing your speakers don't.  I just priced soundbars a week ago for my daughter's TV, as they had a couple of speakers die and can't afford a complete 5.1 system at this time. I got them a pretty decent 2.1 soundbar for $150, and that included a sub. It doesn't supp...

Re: Roku Eating 1 Gig An Hour

Looking at bit rates in general - 1G an hour is Fischer Price rates, man. The low of the low. Some hardcore MakeMKV BluRay guys/gals won't even watch something that's been as much as 'breathed on' by an encoder - raw BD bit rates for 1080p can easily top 30Mbps - and yes that would be something like...

Re: Roku Eating 1 Gig An Hour

I mean, there's a lot of factors, but 1-1.5gb per hour isn't unheard of for 1080p streaming. EDIT: A little googling about Netflix.  "Medium" which is 720 is roughly .7GB/hr streaming and high is 3GB/hr of streaming.  So yeah, using netflix, going from 720 to 1080 would vastly increase yo...

Re: Roku Eating 1 Gig An Hour

1G an hour is probably light... lighter than it is at my house. When you consider: Netflix/Amazon maintain a 'decent' bit rate for 1080p (some would argue they're 'bit rate starved' and sub-standard)... in the neighborhood of 3.5 to 4.5 Mbps. At my house when I encode at 3.7 (normally) the file size...

Re: Roku’s new soundbar and subwoofer

Considering I got some Logitech desktop speakers with the 'woof' for $40 that sound pretty darn good (external speaker jack), these $200 Roku Speakers better do something extra special - something I'm not exactly seeing at a glance.

Disable the 'Drescher' Filter.
Also in the audio section uncheck: "Limit Fingernails on a Blackboard Sounds".

Re: Battery Life on Remote

At this point I think it's fairly safe to assume some Roku Remotes are just... flaky. What to do about it? It's not like Roku could fix 'em with an update. They could admit defeat, find a replacement remote that is as close to Rock Solid as possible (through testing I would assume) and offer it to u...

Re: Workaround: Forcing Roku to connect with no Internet access.

If you set your Plex Server's Security (Network) to: 'Preferred' instead of 'Required' and the Plex App to: 'Fallback to insecure connections on Local Network Only' The occasional internet outage is survivable. For NO Internet - not sure how you'd go about initializing everything, but if you set the...

Re: Which Roku should I choose??

If the budget allows, get an Ultra. I got a Refurb from Amazon for $80 Something.  The flagship will probably have a longer shelf life and be more suited to delivering the best experience to a big screen TV. At some point, sooner or later, you're going to discover WiFi isn't sufficient for transferr...

Re: TCL Roku TV audio issues

It's normal for all new TV Speakers to sound like crap. Most people plan on using something (anything) else from day one. I mean how much high end fidelity are you getting out of your Cell Phone speaker? Expect similar service from modern TV Speakers. I use a Cheapo set of Desktop Speakers with the ...

Re: YouTube Alternative for Roku 2 XS

And that's why I only use Plex when I'm traveling. My Stick connects via the hotel WiFi just fine, and I can watch whatever I want via Plex. But for home use I much prefer the Roku Media Player. Yes, it's not as fancy interface like Plex, but it will play one movie after another, which is a require...

Also Netflix shows a preview of what you might want to watch as sort of an advertisement. ...- and considering the Plex UNO app runs like @$$ on my Ultra right now I'll be shopping for something newer ASAP (perhaps not a Roku - it depends). ... What is "Plex Uno"?  I run the standard Plex...

Re: Amazon prime video quality

I watch it so infrequently I don't know for sure, but at one time they used to expose the resolution on the player, but haven't for a while now. I'm not even sure they identify SD and HD. Probably cuts down on the overall bandwidth they consume - considering most folks can't notice a difference in a...

Re: YouTube Alternative for Roku 2 XS

Also Netflix shows a preview of what you might want to watch as sort of an advertisement. News Flash: That's not 'sort of' an advertisement. That's absolutely an advertisement - with no way to disable that, or shrinking credits, or 'because you watched', or 'more with Clem Coultrane'... and it's th...
