Roku upconverting (or upscaling)

Roku allows for manually setting the output display resolution.  It also allows for auto setting the resolution based on your TV HDMI connection.  Roku does not allow for adjusting the display resolution based on the streaming contents input resolution.  As a result, Roku upconverts all non 4k cont...

Re: 2017 Streaming Stick+ Resolutions

Roku is upconverting everything to 4K so your TV is showing the input is 4K.

Re: New Roku Streaming Sticks....cannot move or unplug them....help!

Hi Mike, Sorry, just saw your post.  So, (please forgive my stupidity).  Right now, with the C1000A I have a modem AND router in one, correct?  So do I now have to purchase a modem AND a router as separate items?  (gosh I'm getting mixed up).   And if I do go with the Google WiFi System (just the o...

Re: New Roku Streaming Sticks....cannot move or unplug them....help!

My understanding is the CenturyLink Model C1000A is a combined DSL modem/Wi-Fi router.  I would consider getting a Wireless Access Point and plug it into the C1000A Ethernet port and disable the C1000A Wi-Fi.  The Netgear WAC104 802.11ac AP should work fine, I don't think you need an expensive ...

Re: 2017 Stick vs. Stick+

The CPU is the same in all the 2017 Roku streaming devices, it is a quad-core ARM Cortex A53.  The Stick+ has 1GB of RAM and 512MB of NVM (flash) storage.  The Stick has 512MB of RAM and 256MB of NVM (flash) storage. The Stick+ may be a tad quicker and has more storage for loading m...

Re: Snowy / Green corruption

I hope Roku is aware of the snow/green screen issue when Roku Auto-adjust display refresh rate is enabled.  I had posted about this this issue some time ago.  It must not be a very widespread issue because it is disabled by default or only effects Sony TV's? Maybe someone from Roku Engineering c...

Re: Snowy / Green corruption

I have two Sony HDR 4k TV's one is connected to 2017 Roku Ultra and the other to Streaming Stick+, both are working fine when configured as follows: ⋅ Connect Roku to HDMI port #2 and enable enhanced HDMI, HDMI 3 is normally reserved for ARC and HDMI 1 & 4 will not handle 4k 60Hz &sdot...

Re: ABC app

I have the same issue with Hulu.  On occasion while streaming a Hulu program the picture will suddenly zoom in so only part of the picture displays.  I then have to exit the Hulu app to get the picture back to normal.  It doesn't seem to happen with my other Roku apps; DirecTV Now, Britbox, CBS All ...

Re: FCC AUTHORIZES ATSC 3.0 BROADCAST TRANSMISSION STANDARD

I have a feeling that with very few exceptions, people will wait to upgrade for this until it's time to get a new TV anyway.  You may be right, time will tell. I think there will be many incentives for consumers and local stations to upgrade.  Local stations will need to cooperate to simulcast the...

As early as spring 2018, TV viewers in Phoenix may have 10 television stations broadcasting in ATSC 3.0.  It will be interesting to see what products are announced at CES 2018.

FCC AUTHORIZES ATSC 3.0 BROADCAST TRANSMISSION STANDARD

https://apps.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-347803A1.pdf Since all existing TV's will need a converter box to get OTA ATSC 3.0, the race will be on to see who can provide the first combined streaming/ATSC 3.0 box.  I hope Roku is listening and commits to develop a Roku ATSC 3.0 box.  Although ...

Re: Wireless - Streaming Stick+ vs. Ultra

It seems both models support wireless ac, but I've read that the Streaming Stick+ actually has better wireless range. Is this accurate, or do they have the same wireless hardware? Both models will have similar wireless performance.  The Steaming stick+ has better performance than the standard Strea...

Re: 4K HDR @60hz Problem With Roku Ultra & 8.0 FW

My Sony XBR TV is working fine with HDMI enhancement turned on and with Roku Display type manually set to 4K HDR at 60Hz.  On my Sony TV only HDMI inputs 2 & 3 support 4K 60p. The only Issue I am having is when the Roku Auto-adjust display refresh rate option is enabled. There is a problem with ...
