Re: Interesting news from PlayOn

It looks like they just opened the door for a competitor to come into the market.

Re: SECOND Lost Remote -- Is it Just Me...?

Duct tape the remote control to a brick. That way it won't slip away quite so easily. It's a small remote, ideal for sliding into a couch. Mine drops between the cushions, and through a tear in the fabric. You have to reach down through a narrow gap, and hope the cat isn't under the couch, looking f...

Re: 800,000 people cut the cable cord

It's all about data distribution. Broadcast began in an era where it was expensive and difficult to distribute data. Cable and satellite still represent a model where it is difficult and expensive to distribute data. But data is much cheaper and easier to distribute now. Cable and satellite's days a...

Re: Does Roku mean...

Roku and Netflix market this product as a way to watch movies instantly at no extra charge, great. BUT they fail to mention that the "instant watch" selections are mostly B movies with no CC. Sure I can go to Amazon, but I have to pay for the movie. They really should show people who are ...

Re: independent power supply for ROKU

You'll probably have to experiment to get enough current out of it, using higher power batteries, running the batteries is parallel. Running the batteries in series increases the voltage, running the batteries in parallel increases the current capacity. But I think it would be a monstrosity. If you'...

Re: Browsing On Roku For Netflix Movies-Available In Future????

Last year, a Roku official stated that the box would have 10 channels by the end of the year. That wasn't treated as an estimate, it was treated as an iron-clad promise. "By the end of the year" morphed in rumor to the fall, and then morphed into by summer. By June, people were pulling the...

Re: YouTube

I'm very happy with having YouTube on the Roku. Searching was slow (but what can you expect with a virtual keyboard), but I found what I wanted. Quality was good, better than when I watch YouTube videos in full screen on my PC. YouTube has its own annoying flaws, which of course aren't the fault of ...

Re: Device suddenly stopped working

I ordered a new one yesterday. I'm guessing it's the power supply. It measured 5.5 volts, but that was without a load, and I have read on the forums that the power supply can read the right voltage but not have enough amps to power the unit. So, I'm without the Roku for a couple days. I have an old ...

Re: What is playing on your Roku?

Iron Man. Not the movie, the animated series. My three year old daughter wants it every night before bed. The thing is, only six episodes are available for streaming. She doesn't mind watching them over and over again, but I could do with some more episodes. Various documentaries, mostly from PBS. I...

Re: Idea for saving Saturday Delivery

Netflix would love to put all of their library available for streaming, it would save them a lot of money and postage and mail centers. If Saturday delivery goes away, there's nothing that can be done about it.

Re: Satellite / Cable replacement

What I do for my DVRing is to record OTA TV on my main PC, and then play the recorded files back on an old Celeron PC that is hooked up to my TV. I could run a long VGA cable from my main PC to the TV, but this avoids the cable and that long of a cable can pick up interference anyway. My recorded TV...

Re: Possible to add a Web browser to the Roku?

Just because we aren't falling in line to agree with you doesn't mean that good arguments aren't being presented. Besides, if the arguments presented are so bad, you should be able to make mincemeat of them instead of just taking your ball and going home.

Re: Satellite / Cable replacement

Get a PC to supplement the Roku, and connect that to your TV. It doesn't have to be an expensive one, I use an old Celeron PC to play web content and to play back TV that I recorded using the TV tuner on my main PC.

Re: Possible to add a Web browser to the Roku?

People have pretty low expectations for a web browser on a cell phone. On a big screen from their couch, they would expect a full-fledged browser like they have on their PC. And I don't think anyone would buy a keyboard and mouse for the Roku, we'd be pretty much limited to what can be done with the...
