Re: How to turn home page advertising off?

And what happens if they change the static ads to video/audio?  I certainly wouldn't want that... Tell that to Netflix and the 139 million subscribers worldwide. That is effectively what the Home Screen on Netflix is now and I don't think their subscriber growth has suffered. What we will do is vis...

Re: Roku TV / Netflix slow navigation

Thanks atc. I called Netflix customer service before I posted here and they told me the problem was with my television. Your answer makes more sense. I’ll go try to find a place to vent to Netflix. I have seen the same sluggish navigation issues with Netflix on all of my TCL Roku-enabled TV's from ...

Re: How to turn home page advertising off?

That's ridiculous. I've already paid close to $100 for the Roku and I pay for Netflix. All the free channels already display ads at the rate of one every two minutes, so you have to wait through 50-60 ads per movie and often they are the same twice in a row. The big-ass ad on the front page should ...

Re: New Show Guide

If you wish to track only the shows that you watch, I find the TV Calendar website below quite useful. TV Calendar Create an account and you can use the Quick Filter option to scroll through and SELECT the shows that you want it to track for you. It seems to work off of air dates for shows that you ...

Re: Fox News Go & CNBC LIVE not working

I can’t access Fox News Go LIVE nor CNBC LIVE on my Roku. My cable provider is Optimum and I get both of those channels with my cable plan and I can get them on my TVs which have Optimum cable boxes. Roku advises me to remove the apps, restart the Roku and then add back the channels but that didn’t...

Re: Roku is no longer a neutral platform after today’s Roku OS 9.1 update

If they move to the Roku Channel as the home page, that would make it very similar to the Amazon Fire TV. I'm not in favor of that. I haven't seen that in OS 9.1, so I don't think they're rolling that out now. But if they think it worthwhile, I could certainly see them pushing it on us. That would ...

Re: Roku is no longer a neutral platform after today’s Roku OS 9.1 update

I'm not certain I agree with that article title. OS 9.1 is only adding one feature that starts playing media from The Roku Channel. That's a voice search. And it's only if that particular title is available on TRC. Otherwise, you still get the same list of all channels that title is available on. I...

Re: Roku is no longer a neutral platform after today’s Roku OS 9.1 update

Neutral platform? The Roku box started out as a Netflix only player and has prioritized Netflix in many revisions since in a semi-open environment for other channels. Until "recently" (reads: some years ago) the Roku platform started to prioritize/help other mainstream channels onto the p...

Re: First thoughts on Alexa for Roku skill

FYI I was able to get multiple Roku TV's working after reading through a few articles and figuring out what the LINK DEVICES option in Advanced Settings in the Roku SKILL will allow. It is not an elegant process to get set up, but if you are okay with specific Alexa / Echo Speakers or Alexa App on p...

Re: First thoughts on Alexa for Roku skill

So my problem earlier is that the device in Alexa is not "Roku TV", it is the name of my TV.  I changed the name in Alexa to just be "TV" to make things simpler and it started working. "Alexa turn on TV" turned the TV on or off if requested Can't launch Netflix.  I get...

Re: First thoughts on Alexa for Roku skill

Additional thoughts after some further testing on TCL Roku TV. ⋅ I can PAUSE a stream with Alexa, but can not RESUME or PLAY the stream with Alexa once it is paused. ⋅ FAST FORWARD and REWIND work with Alexa, but without the ability to PLAY or RESUME stream it is not very useful....

Re: First thoughts on Alexa for Roku skill

AWESOME.  Unfortunately all I get is "Something went wrong". What command did you attempt? If trying to launch Antenna TV you have to ask ALEXA to switch to ANTENNA TV on <DEVICE NAME>. Alexa picked up the device names that I gave each of my Roku TV's when they were set up through my Roku...
