"Hello From Your HD1000"

Very very cool!

It's probably important to note that XP (SP2) blocks access to UPnP devices by default in "My Network Places" but supplies a link in the Network Tasks pane to make the devices available.

Re: Time to Buy?

My interests are to view photos, ripped DVD's, and recorded dish or cable programs on my HDTV. I currently use my HD1000 to do all of these, so it's definitely possible with the hardware. But, as others have already stated, if you want to be able to do this straight out of the box or with minimal e...

But 64MB is more than enough for a dedicated-purpose HD set-top box running Linux - esp. with a powerful vidoe processor like the ATI Xilleon chip. Almost every HD cable box nowadays has 64MB or less RAM, and they play HD material just fine. My HD1000 only seems to have 32MB. Is there a 64MB versio...

The sole purpose of both was to play streamed MPEG2 video, and you know how that turned out. Both units sit here useless for all practical purposes... I use my Roku almost exclusively for streamed MPEG2 video, and using StreamPlayer rarely have any problems with it. The trick I've learned, after mu...

4 -- Yes it sorts alphabetically. However, if, as most people in our experience, your song files are named in the style <track number> - <song title>.<filetype>, then it should get it right. I mentioned this before in another thread. Seems good to mention it again now. The alphabetical sort sorts u...

Shares that the Roku saw before don't get cleared when you scan for new shares, so it's possible that it's not seeing them now, but just hasn't cleared the list. You should do a clear and re-scan to get the fully refreshed list. Unfortunately, this clears your saved username/passwords as well, so be...

Not sure about the HD1000's wireless configuration, but I do know that, if you use a bridge, the network settings (including shared key) are configured on the bridge, not the Roku, so you wouldn't have any problem at all.

.5 scale means that when it transcodes the video, it's reducing it to half it's original resolution (ie. original 640x480 would be scaled down to 320x240). So, the quality of you're video should look considerably better if you use a scale of 1. The bitrate is important, too. The higher the bitrate, ...

The output file is the one you specified in the "On the Stream output dialog, check File and enter a filename for the TS" step (this specified file should have a .TS extension).

WET or WAP then? I want the best working solutioneven if it is more complex.

Ron
The easiest solution, unfortunately also the most expensive, would be the WET, as it takes very little configuration, and requires no special setup on the HD1000 itself.

The WRT54G doesn't have a bridging mode, so without some fancy configuration with some third-party firmware (try http://www.sveasoft.com), a second WRT54G won't be of much use.

I'm not sure if you can use the artpacks as screensavers or not, but I did find this thread in the old Roku listserv that, if you're at all technically inclined, may help you get there: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hard ... nical/1971

Ok, I tried the same method with an unencrypted DVD and it worked with one exception. StreamPlayer played it fine with the exception of having no audio on the first file. Once it hit the second file everything played fine. CinemaSix was able to play it from the beginning with no problems at all. Now...

I've only tried it with DVD VOBs that I've made from AVIs I wanted to convert. After creating the VOBs with NeroVision Express, I then convert them to TS with VLC, no transcoding, and run HJSplit (~26MB splits for ~1 minute segments) on the TS. Then I rename the split files so they all end in TS. Th...
