Re: Newer channels locking up device

Which model device are you using? How many channels do you have installed?

Re: HDMI connection not working

I will try a short HDMI cable and see what happens. The house was just wired so I hope they used the latest HDMI cables. Not sure I would know how to tell. If you have access to the HDMI cable (attic?), the manufaturer and part number should be stamped on the cable jacket. Google (or Bing...my choi...

Re: HDMI connection not working

While I suspect the Standard Speed cable would be fine, I would spend a little more and get the silver plated cable. The silver, vice tin, makes for better conductance. At that length, it couldn't hurt to go the extra mile so to speak: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id...

Re: HDMI connection not working

As previously noted, the issue is probably the cable length - perhaps in conjunction with the cable version. A couple of years ago I had a 30' HDMI cable between my AVR (supporting a PS3 and HD-DVD player) and an LCD. Following a couple PS3 upgrades, I started having video issues. It turns out my HD...

Re: Vudu?

I don't think the box could handle Vudu personally. It chokes on Hulu sometimes and Vudu is more taxing. Agreed. I have used Vudu on both a PS3 and Samsung BD player and there is no doubt that the app is resource intensive. While I hope I'm wrong, since I would love to see Roku land Vudu, I believe...

Re: One household multiple Roku's

Yes. Netflix has something like a 50 device limit, so a few Rokus shouldn't be a problem. I have 3 connected to the same Netflix account. -JT sadly, that didn't seem to last. from the netflix faq page: "You may associate up to six unique devices -- including personal computers and Netflix-read...

Re: HBO GO on the Way?

What is the purpose to even having this available for the Roku since the purpose of a Roku is to stream on your TV and if you have cable and HBO already, it would already be available on your TV. This is a bunch of garbage and definitely not worthy of front of site news on Roku. Shame on you, Roku ...

Re: HBO GO on the Way?

Edit 2: Just hooked my Apple TV back up and unfortunately, the AirPlay feature only supports audio with HBO GO. Sorry. You're right, it's audio only AirPlay on the iPad. While a "nice to have" it probably is not a feature I would have used anyway. While there are some things I like...

Re: HBO GO on the Way?

That is understandable as she is a member of the same household. Anyway, there have been enough people to comment on it that I believe there aren't any real safeguards to prevent multiple people from using a single account. It is just a little surprising to me considering how restrictive/protective...

Re: HBO GO on the Way?

Interesting...and that sounds great. However, what then would stop you from passing your login information to friends and family? I may be mistaken, but I have to believe there is some mechanism in place that prevents those that are not subscribers from accessing the service. I checked with HBO abo...

Re: HBO GO on the Way?

The iOS app also supports AirPlay to an AppleTV. Are you certain about that? I am new to HBO GO on my iPad and maybe I am missing something; however, I just tried a couple of movies and I don't see the AirPlay icon or any indication the feature is supported during video playback. Edit: I don't curr...

Re: HBO GO on the Way?

Yes, you are still required to have an HBO subscription for HBO Go. Is it possible to subscribe to HBO for the $8 per month or whatever without also paying for the cable box plus standard cable plus digital cable? I don't believe so, but you might check.... Request a stand alone price. http://www.h...

Re: HBO GO on the Way?

I suppose you could also watch on the road if you can take your ROKU. That may not be the case. It isn’t just your login information that is looked at, but the service provider; information contained in the IP hearder. As an example, when I login to HBO GO on my iPad or ESPN on my Xbox, there is an...

Re: A new and unique streaming video search engine

I can understand why the services wouldn't want to necessarily allow direct access to their players for something like this. Fanhattan -- http://www.fanhattan.com/index.php -- appears to have some type of agreement with the major video services (iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, Hulu Plus, PlayStation, Vudu a...
