Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Testing

Version V1.11.0 available This version overwrote my settings ... pointing the webserver address out onto the internet instead of at my local server. Same here. Easily fixed. The USB media option is neat. I simply cloned my media server's Media root to a USB flash stick and away I went. Having multi...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Testing

I have been using Roksbox for many weeks now. It's easy to use and generally plays everything fine. Thanks a bunch for making this the killer application for Roku, IMHO. The example XML files helped alot, because I use Linux. Trivial to edit by hand. Plus, thanks for adding additional server capabil...

Re: Post Feedback on New Netflix Interface Here

I like the new Netflix interface, alot.

It's mildly annoying that there is a noticable delay when first entering Netflix.
The Icon scrolling seems very fast and usable, (after the cache has loaded I assume).

Re: Amazon license restrictions

You bought the VOD version (Not rent it) and you are not allow to watch it. I think you can still download it and watch it on your computer. But that still not right. Its would be like your Blu-ray or DVD saying: Due to license restrictions the DVD or Blu-ray disk you bought can not be view at this...

Re: Amazon license restrictions

Even though I use Amazon Video On Demand alot, both rental and purchase, I don't really trust it. So if something disappears and I want to watch it again, it would simply remind me that I would want to own the DVD. (Or check Netflix / Blockbuster.) I understand about the licensing restrictions, but ...

Re: Disappointing Amazon Video On Demand Quality, not for me

I use Amazon Video On Demand all the time. Don't have cable TV or over the air TV, so Blockbuster stores, Netflix by mail & VOD, and Amazon VOD are my choices for rentals. (I am happier without commercials and the depressing news.) My setup is below, all wired Ethernet, (2 x 100Mbps hops until D...

Re: Roksbox, Example XMLs

Someone sent me an example "videos.xml" and I was able to get Videos working. With an already working Music, I just need more info about Photos part. Perhaps I will be the one to supply example XMLs for Linux / Unix users. Anyone want to send me a reasonably short and working "photos....

Re: I never get HD on Amazon

One good solid test is to try a straight Ethernet cable from the Roku to your DSL Modem. Then reset your Roku to be wired. Eliminate the middle man and see if that removes the problem. Some places just have bad RF characteristics. I live near 2 fire stations, a fire rescue station, a Sherriff's stat...

Re: Roksbox, Example XMLs

Could you add example XMLs to your Wiki? http://roksbox.wikispaces.com/ I use Linux exclusively, (well, Solaris 10/SPARC and maybe Solaris/x86), and can't run the Windows tools. Basically all I need is an example in each catagory with 2 entries. I kinda have the MP3 player part working based on some...

Re: I never get HD on Amazon

I too have 7Mbps broadband, (though it seems to max out on some things at 6Mbps). Note that I have Qwest DSL, which in theory has no rate limiting caps. The HD from Amazon works pretty well, though I see most of my re-buffering morning times, (7am to 9am), and early evening, (5pm to 7:30pm). Seems l...

Re: Roku and 1080p

The all in one chip used in the current Roku video player products can't support 1080p, only 1080i and below. However, the same company that makes the all in one chip has a later model that DOES support 1080p. So Roku could make a video player that supports 1080p, with minimal changes to the board. ...

Yes, I meant streaming cache. Not storage, (either temporary or more permanant). Basically enough that noticable re-buffering would not occur. And possibly being able to watch HD when the network is slow, (you might have 7Mbps but up-stream from you could be swamped). Whence you leave the movie or T...

Re: USB interface

My vote would be for some download media cache. Specifically I would like to always get the highest resolution, even if it meant downloading before hand. Something like a 4GB USB voltile memory stick would probably be fine. (Yes I mean RAM type memory, not flash). Do to DRM issues, flash memory and ...
