Re: Netflix Super HD now available to *all* Netflix users...

Awesome. I'm sure that Netflix users with bandwidth caps will appreciate the 50% increase in bandwidth consumption for HD titles . The only way that I've found to block it is to set the output of the device I'm streaming Netflix with to 720p (which keeps me from getting the non-Super 1080p...

Re: New entry level Roku coming?

There's more than an entry level Roku coming ( https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=610525&fcc_id=TC2-R1006 ). This one has 5Ghz as well. Looks like a complete refresh may be coming for the holi...

Re: Fox Sports 1

Roku doesn't negotiate distribution rights. They provide a platform. That's why I said logic, because the application of logic answers the question. Fox decides how they want to distribute their content. You don't need to know anything more than that. Actually for apps like WatchESPN and Youtube, i...

Re: Netflix Chanel Upgrade Add slide show

I find the Apple TV Netflix app to have the worst UI of any device Netflix is on. Navigation is absolutely terrible. The "slide show" performs zero functionality. It is just there because Netflix is stuck using text navigation. But you can't actually use the slide show.

Re: How Roku can build a Chromecast killer

Roku could be even more killer if it added a Chromecast server. I doubt it would ever happen but it would be pretty awesome to get the best of both worlds. Having apps on the Roku is great. But there is something to be said for anyone in your house being able to throw a Youtube or Netflix video on t...

Re: NFL streaming

I think he said Directv wants the Sunday Ticket, just not exclusive rights to it. That article was just Directv sending a message to the NFL not to raise the price too high. They want exclusive rights and will pay a lot for it. The NFL wants it to stay exclusive as well. If everyone could get ST it...

Re: Can Youtube Not Be on Roku Now?

It requires a license agreement with Roku. So it is not as simple as Google having to develop the app. Other than a few platforms, Youtube pretty much doesn't develop an app for a platform these days unless the platform supports HTML5. So if the hardware supports it, developing an app is very simpl...

Re: Just got 5.0, now Netflix has SuperHD?

Netflix shows the Super HD tag whether your provider supports it or not. It just means the video supports Super HD. My guess is they do this to try to raise awareness but it does confuse people into thinking they are getting the higher quality encodes when many aren't.

Re: Can Youtube Not Be on Roku Now?

It is strictly up to Google/YouTube. If they want a channel on Roku they can write it and I am sure Roku will welcome it with open arms and open Channel Store. It requires a license agreement with Roku. So it is not as simple as Google having to develop the app. Other than a few platforms, Youtube ...

Re: Does roku test all channels that go into the channel sto

This is a genuine question as two float left interactive channels are still listed in the store in despite of them clearly not working correctly, there are ov guide and popcorn flix. Those channels have been working here. I haven't tried them today, but within the last couple days they were working...

Re: Netflix launches all 13 episodes of 'House of Cards'

watched the whole thing as well. Fantastic series There was one particular plot detail that I found a bit over the top (can't really describe it without spoilers), but overall the show walks the line between reality and entertainment quite well. You mean the infamous episode 11? :) Other than that,...

This is how all live feeds all over the internet behave. The encoding and stream buffering will always cause a delay.

Re: New Model Roku 4200x hits the FCC

Meh to 5ghz, it ain't needed, except for marketing IMO. Maybe for you. My 2.4GHz range is noisy, what with the kids and their devices, etc. I have a dual-band router with 5GHz capabilities which I used just for multimedia (HTPC) and the difference between the two is substantial in my scenario. It i...
