HTML 5 is just a container, can't they add it via firmware?

It doesn't have the horsepower. There are chipsets that can handle a lot of the html5 processing power so it isn't done all in software.

Meh to 5ghz, it ain't needed, except for marketing IMO. I hope there is more to the 4200x than that and Youtube support.

If it supports Youtube, then that means it opens up Roku to entirely new class of apps given HTML5 support.

Re: New Model Roku 4200x hits the FCC

A new model Roku (4200x) just hit the FCC. Not much is known about it but Engadget suggested it would (finally) have an official YouTube channel. Can't wait to get the full specs and shipping date! http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/08/roku-4200x-fcc/ Why would youtube -- which used to be included and...

Re: Commercials now on ROKU BOOOOOOOO!

What does that commercial have to do with Roku? I'm confused. Or are you making a joke?

You realize lots of apps on Roku utilize advertising. Otherwise most of the channels would not be free.

Re: Netflix and Hulu Plus won't work on Roku

Netflix is experiencing a service disruption? I am able to watch Netflix still on my computer and on my PS3. Granted, it's slow, especially on the PS3, but it still works. It's only the Roku that gives me the error. I wonder why. Netflix segments their streaming for different types of devices. It i...

Hope it does as well as Lilyhammer. Fresh non-network programming is a good thing.

Lilyhammer wasn't really a huge success on Netflix itself. Plus, it wasn't created by Netflix. It did do very well in Norway however so it earned another season.

Re: PBS channel no longer available

Considering PBS programming uses public funding therefore falls into the public domain. This statement is not true. While any government produced programs should fall under public domain, PBS licenses a lot of content from other producers (e.g., Downton Abbey). Just because those programs are shown...

Re: NHL Gamecenter - unavailable for half the season

Had the same problem. There's a software update that now lets you log in with your GCL account to verify. Either remove and reinstall the NHL channel or go into roku settings and check for software update. The easiest way to update your apps is to channel store and back out. It will update your app...

Re: Is there a way to root or hack the Roku so I don't get T

You wont be required to use the Time Warner channel, it will simply be an option for Time Warner Cable customers to use. This is similar to Time Warner offering an app on your iPhone or Android device, you would have the option to install it or not, but in no way will it be required. This will be a...

Re: Netflix Starts Offering 'Super HD' and 3D Streams

I wonder if this is just a way for Netflix to strong arm people's isps. Netflix is providing these OpenConnect servers for free to ISPs. It is really for their benefit to accept them as it let's them segregate Netflix data from the rest of their network. Supposedly this would be good for the ISPs.

Re: Netflix Starts Offering 'Super HD' and 3D Streams

I wonder if you could use a proxy or vpn to sign up for the superhd beta. I find it rediculous that they are forcing the isps to have some local cache just so we can watch what were already paying for. I bet it will be years before timewarner sets up one of those caches and many of us have the band...

I wonder if Roku will make any announced other than TV partnerships? Will we see a new Roku box and/or software? They've announced new tv manufacturers they are partnering with in conjunction with the Roku Streaming Stick and they've announced new partners that will be delivering channels. I wouldn...

Re: What would you want on the Roku 3? Hardware not software

I think native HTML5 support is a must. This is the reason apps like Netflix lag on Roku behind since they are using HTML5 on most of their other platforms and can roll out updates much easier.

Nope. Only the home team feed is available. The NBA doesn't provide alternate feeds on the web player or any other client.

Re: Question about NBA Game Time on a sd tv

I just tested and had no problem outputting a game replay through the composite cables so it appears to work. To be clear though, the NBA Gametime app isn't providing a HD stream this year through Roku. Perhaps if there is an update that allows HD this year, you may get that message.
