My asking for someone to make a case for the bandwidth cap that isn't solely based on speculation or "facts" from AT&T who has an obvious agenda is based on my wanting to understand why someone would support them in that decision to the point of sounding like a corporate shill. You ar...
everyone just needs to calm down... just take a load off.. Everyone sit down and watch some internet porn while you still can... not together though, that would be weird.... With all these caps going in place I'm going to have to start doing that from the free Mcdonalds wifi. Now THAT is go...
Questioning at what point the proportion of 'heavy users" is too much (either to infrastructure limits or to an ISP's cost of doing business) is relevant and probably misrepresented (at least to some extent) by invested-parties - but it is a meaningful question. I agree that the question is re...
Ok. Make the case then about how 2% of users are clogging the network without grossly oversimplifying the factors. I think it is just being accepted as fact because AT&T said so. In what way are the heavy users doing more damage than the light users are offsetting. This is based on your years o...
I'm sure at least 2% don't use much of anything so the lines are hardly being clogged up by the 2% that do. This is grossly oversimplifying factors concerning what is being used, when, and how. Ok. Make the case then about how 2% of users are clogging the network without grossly oversimplifying the...
What percentage of users is subscribing to 10-20Mbps service and using it for little more than checking email and Facebook? You don't get these statistics because it makes the 2% of users argument ridiculous. This statement confuses bandwidth capacity (so-called 'speed' of Internet access) with the...
The water service doesn't really compare, because you're talking about a finite resource, not necessarily a shared service. A better comparison is phone service. The internet is a finite resource too. Even the phone company has limited resources. They can't handle everyone using their service at th...
The best comment I've seen on this whole mess is in comments to this story http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/149831-netflix-pans-atats-plan-to-cap-data The person wrote that if the caps only impact on 2 percent of users, why do it? ATT is having to implement an entire infrastructu...
Netflix won't be $8 a month for long. If they do keep the low price content is going to suffer. Studios are putting a stop to it with new contracts this year. Between that and new caps they are doing a pretty good job of killing the streaming industry.
It sure seems difficult for people to have a discussion on this board without somebody getting their panties in a twist. What is the big deal? Everyone should not have to share the same opinion to prevent the discussion from devolving into insults. Some folks should learn to put their egos aside a l...
That would be frustrating. I would call and threaten to cancel the service if I thought 10mbps was available to me and I was being withheld for arbitrary reasons. It might be a bluff but I would give it a shot. I'm not sure about this, but often DSL can be provisioned at a higher speed than it's ev...
Perhaps when they travel they would like to take it along with them. There might also be an "on demand" feature they don't get with regular cable. I'm only speculating though.
That would be frustrating. I would call and threaten to cancel the service if I thought 10mbps was available to me and I was being withheld for arbitrary reasons. It might be a bluff but I would give it a shot. I would do that but since I don't have a leg to stand on it would be quite embarrassing ...
