I got word this evening while I was out to dinner that the 8.2 rollout will come first to support the new Roku Wireless Speakers.

Typically we haven't posted the release notes on the forums in a few years, but there was a directive to post it this time.  Bacon just beat us to it

8.2 will come first.  9.0 will come later to TVs.

At least that's how I understand it.  I'll try to get some confirmation this week.

I've been watching Prime lately, and it always goes to a blank screen when paused.  I don't ever remember it doing anything differently.

Some channels have their own screensavers, which takes priority over your default screensaver.

The IR remotes should work with the 2018 models.  Only the stick versions as noted previously will not work with IR, due to their nature.
