Older CD players and DACs use 1-bit DACs while newer ones use multi-bit DACs. The 1-bit units usually exhibit a bass that is less tight and have poorer dynamics. On the other hand, they sound very smooth and exhibit a good transparency. These statements are, of course, very general in nature – I h...

At what level does DAC cease to make a difference for CD-quality sound? The answer to this question greatly depends on the CD player you are using, e.g. if you were to compare the sound of the Meridian 800 series CD player to the SB with a DAC, then the DAC would have to be very good to come even c...

Hi Marc, What is your system setup? The analog output on the SB is o.k. Depending on the DAC in your Denon, the sound quality may improve using the coaxial digital connection. Another question is: Are you streaming MP3s through the SB? MP3 is a lossy format. You should not hear any difference if you...

I am playing WMA lossless over a wireless network without any problems. The media files reside on an external harddisk that is connected to a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4. The computer is hard wired to a D-Link DI624. The rest of the network is wireless. The SB 1000 reads a signal strength of 23; with a minimu...

To give you a brief answer: I love the X-DAC V3! Here is why: When I was looking for a new DAC, I had an opportunity to listen to the MSB Gold Link III, the Benchmark DAC 1, the Musical Fidelity (MF) X-DAC V3, and even some some mega-buck DACs. The MSB, the Benchmark, and the MF are reasonably price...

Turn off digital output when on standby

My Musical Fidelity X-DAC V3 serves as a DAC for both the SoundBridge M1000 via Toslink and a CD transort via S/PDIF. The DAC locks on the first digital signal coming in. Here is my problem: After listening to the SB (i.e., I put then it on standby) I may want to listen to music coming from the tran...

Problems with WMA Lossless - lowest bitrate

Could somebody please help me to refresh my memory on to outcome of the WMA lossless - 400 kbps lowest bitrate discussion. Some of the songs in my library were ripped in WMA lossless by the Windows Media Player (Version 10) at e.g. 397 kbps or 349 kbps. The options in the Windows Media Player were s...

Albums and Artists Display - another feature request

I am using Windows Media Connect (... I did use the Windows Media Player to convert the CDs to the lossless format ) on a M1000 and M 2000. When browsing the albums on the SoundBridge - I will find many 'Greatest Hits' albums without knowing who the artist is (e.g. Cat Stevens, Simon and Garfunkel, ...

Browse Folders

I don't know if this has already been suggested: It would be nice to be able to use iTunes with some functionality of Slimserver, i.e., I would like at times to be able to browse my folders and then pick the album or song that I like. Sure, I could run both the iTunes and the Slimserver software in ...

Bodgery, I totally agree with your comments. Cheap cables will not do the SoundBridge justice. The SoundBridge is indeed a very good unit. :D

bodgery, I would like to beg to differ from your opinion. Although this is not a high-end audio forum, here is my take on it. In digital music transmission, jitter is one of the main problems. (Jitter is the reflection of the signal within the cable.) In order to reduce the jitter in a S/DPIF...

Universal remote?

I have my Harmony 659 working* with both the M1000 and the M2000. All the commands had to be taught using the Roku remote.

* Keep in mind that it works only when you hold the Harmony about 3" or less from the IR senor of the SoundBridge. :(
