Re: Book listening channel? Book viewer channel?

You Toob is a goldmine for audio books. A lot of the books there are in the public domain, but not all of them are. I've downloaded quite a few Unabridged Stephen King novels in audio book form from Y-T w/o problems and i don't think they're in the public domain. I keep them stored on a flash drive....

Book listening channel? Book viewer channel?

Hi -  Roku is the way I get almost all movie viewing and some of my music listening done.  I'm wondering though if it could be a way to listen to and read books, as well.   Lately my book reading is done through Amazon and kindle.  I realize many will look down at reading a book on a tv across the r...

Re: New channel idea - Amazon Kindle Reader for Roku

I'd like to see a kindle reading and purchasing capability via Roku, just as we have Amazon video viewing and purchasing ability via Roku.

I'd also like to have the same capability with audible books.

Re: WEP key? trying to pull a Soundbridge out of mothballs

I solved my problem by using a Powerline solution. That's where you use your house's electrical wiring for internet. A D-Link Powerline kit for around $45 did the trick and my Roku is now connected via ethernet to my router some distance away.  Besides the WEP problem, it also solved the problem of...

That is the old Amazon Video interface. Just looked at it on my Roku 1 and I see what you're talking about. It's a limitation of that old interface. It's not an issue with the new one. I would say the chances of that being fixed is nil.

Ok, thanks.

What Roku model are you using specifically?

Taking a look at it, it says Roku 2 and then XS on top.  I've bought others since then, but given one or two away as gifts.

Re: question about Amazon channel

Oh. Do you have an older Roku, with the older Amazon Video interface? If so, there appears to be a character limit on the description in the main menu. But the entire description is visible when you click through to the individual title's page? Is that what you are seeing? If so, I doubt that will ...

Re: question about Amazon channel

It could be a limitation somewhere. I just tested my Sony BDP player, and it seems to have the full description. HI Andy - I don't know what this means.  I'll guess you're saying that a Sony Blueray disc player brings in Amazon directly (not via Roku) and that it is able to bring in the description...

Re: question about Amazon channel

I use Amazon Video frequently, and I'm not seeing anything being "cut off." What do you mean by that exacly?  Hello scottypie1234: I mean that the text is truncated in the area where one or two sentences are used to describe the film.  Taking a look at a random assortment, I don't seem to...

question about Amazon channel

Hi -  Does anyone know if there could a way for Amazon to modify the Amazon channel such that the brief text abstracts of the films are not cut off?  This cutting off of the abstracts has I think been in place from the start a decade ago (or so) and I'm just wondering if it will ever be cleared, or ...

Idea for a channel - home energy and other information, perhaps some control as well

Hi all - an idea for a channel - any developer that wants to explore and develop this idea, I'm just giving it away.  It may already be done, .... I don't know.  I did a very quick search of the forums before posting, on a couple of different keywords and didn't turn up much. My idea is either one o...

Re: product suggestion

I think enhancing the smart phone app might be a more viable option. I recently switched from a SoundBridge M1001 which I had for many years to a Sonos. The Sonos does not have a build in display and I thought that might be a disadvantage over the SoundBridge but in fact I don't miss it at all. Eve...

Re: product suggestion

Hi, Not a bad idea for your project but as there are many such devices already on the market I don't know if there would be a large enough demand for roku to get involved. http://www.adafruit.com/products/946 this one is marketed for use with the Ras-Pi but would work equally as well with a roku th...

Re: product suggestion

I should have mentioned that have interest in providing a small screen. All it would add is unwanted cost to the product and would target a very small number of customer. A third party purchase would be a much more versatile small TV without adding more support, test and storage to Roku's bottom li...

Re: product suggestion

What's wrong with using your TV that the Roku is (likely) already plugged into? Set it up, turn it off, turn on your music delivery devices. I'm sure some people use a Roku JUST for music (and without a screen), but I bet that number isn't high enough for Roku to offer a screen that'll a) complicat...
