If you are using a Mac, ElGato's EyeConnect software will allow you to access your iTunes music. It acts as a UPNP media server. I use their demo for showing pictures. Although their site claims the Roku is not compatible, it works great for this purpose. Your mileage may vary.... Give their 30 day ...

Sorry if this is off topic, but just wanted to report that mPlay plays video from my new JVC Everio GZMG21 hard disk camcorder (MPEG2) video, (16:9 or 4:3 in the various quality levels) without difficulty. Just copy and you're done (don't even need to rename the .mod files to .mpg !!!) Makes for sho...

OK, I know I am asking for a lot here, but let's see how it goes.... Is there any way to integrate a Winamp/Shoutcast stream player in VNC6 (or use HexRadio in the background???) to enable one to stream the audio to the roku at the same time as watching it with VNC? (Assume one setup a Shoutcast ser...

I think that was simply the SereneScene Aquarium screen saver for Windows/Mac hooked up to a HDTV.

Search on google for UltraVNC. Download the setup program and install. Run the VNCServer application and set the password for connections.

Then configure VNCsix to connect to the IP address of your computer.

LPCM DVD's in mPlay

I finally came upon a DVD movie that used (for some reason) LPCM for the audio track. I had read a few threads here about the multi-step process to convert the audio to AC3, such that it will play properly on mPlay. Just thought I would share my experience with ratDVD which was a simple two step pro...

It's interesting to note that many regard the DVD player as the fastest selling home device in history. So, there are a LOT of them out there, guaranteeing there will be new DVD's for the next 5 to 10 years. It's seems pretty clear that the HD-DVD and Blue-ray DVD devices will be slow to even get on...

Copy to where? To the compact flash card (ideal!). Make sure you have mounted the card as read/write. Do a search on the boards and you will see how to do it.

So I updated my apps (MPlay/Sonica) to refresh the shares on launch, hide them from the desktop, and then unmount (via umount) them on quit. Yet, the Roku still refreshes the shares every 30 minutes! I guess I need to manually attach & detach the shares instead of using the Network Share control...

Win98SE vs XP SMB shares

I was getting broken icons for pictures when browsing, which I assumed were due to progressive formats. But they were properly saved. Turns out, for some reason, although the Roku could see all the image files on a Win98SE share, they would not load. When I copied images to an XP share, they display...

I wanted to completely unmount since it seems that the Roku periodically does a re-login to the server (? keep-alive). My concern is that would keep the drive from sleeping. I am going to give a try with the scripts to hide the shares from the main GUI and see if it is the launcher app which is re-s...

Script to run on power on/off?

Maybe one of the developers can answer this one. Does the Roku run (or look for) a particular script when the power is toggled on/off? I assume the GUI and shares are refreshed when the power is turned back on (I understand the device is always ON, but the video is turned off). Or can I set a script...
