Re: DishWorld Sports

It's actually 18 channels. $10 seems very cheap considering my local cable has just Bein Sports for $10 a month. I have not subscribed since seeing ....waiting... even just once during a sporting event would drive me nuts. Below is the link to the 18 channels for $10 http://www.dishworld.com/packag...

Re: GPS on Roku

Already, I have an Apple TV simply to watch content which is made available only through devices with GPS. On this score, Apple TV and Chromecast are ahead of Roku. There is no reason why Roku couldn't offer models without GPS to those who don't want or need it, but if it offers no models with GPS ...

Re: GPS on Roku

It is absurdly easy to circumvent IP verification It's much easier to detect when IP verification is being circumvented than when GPS verification is being circumvented. Maybe. Apparently the networks think otherwise, though. As MLB was restricted by its contract with TBS to rely on technology more...

Re: GPS on Roku

Geographical verification is done on computers, for the most part, by ip address. While it is not perfect and can be circumvented it is the way that most of the companies that need to verify location have been using for years and really is all that is needed. I find the very idea of having GPS enab...

Re: GPS on Roku

I raised this issue several months ago. It would really be nice in Rokus had built-in GPS systems (at least for those of use who want to keep our streaming legal). I am a subscriber to MLB.TV. Because of exclusivity agreements, MLB.TV does not stream the live games during the postseason. For the ga...

DishWorld Sports

Has anyone subscribed to the new DishWorld Sports channel? I'm very interested in it, especial the Universal Sports network, though I think $10/month to be too much (1/2 of that price would be attractive). However, I don't want to waste money on something that doesn't work very well. So far, out of ...

Re: Best ways to get as close to Cable TV on Roku?

Note the PlayOn is a forbidden channel to discuss here due to Roku receiving complaints about their questionable legality. It cannot be discussed on these boards and Roku does not support it at all. With the other offerings I see no need for it anyway. I teach on this subject at an ABA-accredited l...

Re: Best ways to get as close to Cable TV on Roku?

I'm pretty satisfied with my set up. I have four Rokus (two older ones, and two newer ones, including one Roku 3) attached to my four TVs. Every TV has a Mohu Ultimate Leaf antenna attached, which picks up about 27 channels (but ABC and its sub-channels go in and out depending on the atmospheric con...

Do Rokus have built-in GPS?

I've been reading a lot about Syncbak, a company that is providing OTA broadcasters the ability to stream live to mobile devices such as iPads, iPods, iPhones, and Android devices, using their built-in GPS to determine the location of the device so as to limit streams to the same DMA served by the b...

Re: What does Roku 3 mean for 2XS owners?

Actually, there is. It's called Comcast, Time Warner, Dish, DirecTV, and broadcast TV. Roku pretends to replace these without providing the content. If no one will license content to Roku, then it isn't much of an alternative. I don't agree with this common whine. I think Roku is too lazy to pursue...

Re: What does Roku 3 mean for 2XS owners?

I have four Rokus, including a 2XS and a 3. I also have an Android Mini PC (AMPC). I really don't get the hoopla over the AMPC as a smart TV devise. Unlike a Roku, which is made specifically for watching video and listening to audio on a TV, an AMPC (at least if the Android OS is being used) is the ...
