PC equivalent of Roku?

I have a Roku M1001 and a Roku Radio, and love them both. Now that we have Windows Media Player 11.2 working great on the basement Windows machine, my son would like to stream music to his bedroom upstairs. He's cool with listening to the tunes via his laptop. Is there freeware available that would ...

2.5.174 available for Soundbridge Radio?

I tried to find the wired MAC address on my Soundbridge Radio, but I the System Configuration menu seems different than on my Soundbridge M1001. I can view the MAC address under the "Show Wi-Fi Status", but there is no wired MAC address to be seen.

hibernation configuration?

My desktop machine runs Windows XP "Home" edition, with four user identities, one for each member of the family. I run Windows Media Player 11 beta, and am very happy with it. WMP's media sharing service runs as a background service, so it's up and running even if I log off and keep the ma...

pandora

Thanks, bpa, for the clarification. Sure would be nice if there were a way to get Pandora to work from a Windows machine via a simple set up, or natively to the Roku. I know that there is a multi-component software workaround available, but it would require running yet another server app on my deskt...

Slimserver 6.5.1, AlienBBC, and Pandora

I've been a happy user of my Roku Soundbridge, Slimserver, and AlienBBC, but I've been afraid to upgrade to Slimserver 6.5.1 because of the lack of a Soundbridge patch. With this great posting thread, I'm considering moving to 6.5.1. Will 6.5.1 allow me to use Pandora too? Thanks so much for such le...

Copy presets from one Roku to another?

I have an M1001 and a Radio Soundbridge. Is it possible to transfer the presets from one device to the other, so that the second device's presets would be an exact copy of the presets on the first device?

would rather not use another server solution

Thanks, Foxcat. Your directions look complete and apparently successful. Well done. Unfortunately, I'd prefer not to use another server solution. I already run Windows Media Center 11 to stream the files off my hard drive, and I have SlimServer configured with AlienBBC to stream the Beeb when I feel...

How did you paste for Roku to play Pandora station?

I tried pasting my pandora radio "station" URL into my Roku presets, and the Roku can't stream the station. I, too, emailed myself the URL for the station (http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh155372632382550195) but the station is not a .pls, .m3u, or other format that I recognize... just a strea...

Clarification

Thanks for the clarification on the BBC license issue. I seem to remember that now... does every TV purchaser in the UK pay this on their monthly electric bill, or some such?

Perhaps they could add an MP3-stream surcharge to the same bills, only in very tiny print, and nobody would notice...

MSFT and BBC

My read on the press release is: 1. Likely to make BBC available in Microsoft formats. This would make for streams playable on the Roku. 2. Likely to devise some sort of payment policy so that the Beeb would become a subscription service, at least in the formats provided through Microsoft. Perhaps t...

BBC World Serivce URL seems to work on preset

mms://wmevent3.broadcast.com/bcenc199178?StreamID=25962424&b=b9v7iakvt948i451b363d&CG_ID=57025 Long, hairy URL, but it works on my M1001 as a preset to play the World Service. At least it's working at 8:45 pm MDT Wednesday night. I'll check it again in the morning to see if it's truly a 24-h...

3rd party remotes?

I'm happily using SlimServer software with my Roku. The only problem is that the Roku remote apparently does not have the feature set of the SlimDevices' remote. Will other 3rd-party remotes work with Roku so that navigating the SlimServer's artist and genre lists can be less tedious?

SafeEyes

I installed a trial version of SafeEyes yesterday, and found it to be far more configurable and less interfering than McAfee. Roku, Slimserver and AlienBBC work fine with it, so far. I did have to install an alternative version of socketwrapper.exe in order for AlienBBC to work, but now it works fin...

Real Audio streaming, please

Real Audio streaming, please. So many radio stations, including the best of the BBC stations IMHO, run only on Real Audio.
