Re: flickr channel

Thanks for the kind words on Rokagram. I tried to make it a bit more interested than the others by adding the music, etc. Yes, that could be done. In fact, you might check out http://www.anycloud.co which is a site I did that connects to pretty much all of them (although Flickr may be broken ...

Re: flickr channel

Hi all. Andy Waddell here (Rokagram). This thread just brought to my attention by a friend who was also upset by his Flickr channel not working. The channels could indeed be taken over by another developer, but it would be best if this was done in a cooperative way. It's true that any developer coul...

Free vs. Paid channel

I wrote a short little LinkedIn post about my experience so far developing my first Roku channel. I though it might be of interest of some this board.

Re: US based devices loading channels from non-US channel st

Still not sure I believe you. Go Cubs :D

As far and the Suranimians go.. I've got more than 50 devices registered from that country.

I guess they're lining up around the block at Circuit City Suriname. Circuit City? Wow.. I wonder if they have a Blockbuster too!

Re: US based devices loading channels from non-US channel st

I guess the question is then what determines which channel store they "see". If a non-US user set up their account normally (no proxy) and got registered to see the non-US channel store then later added the proxy to get around restrictions for a particular service that would explain it. An...

US based devices loading channels from non-US channel store

I have two versions of my channel, Rokagram 1. US market (configured in channel store for US only) 2. non-US market (configured for all locations except US) As new devices load up my channel, I get a location registered on my back-end based on IP address look up (supplied by Google). I am seeing an ...

Re: freemium model with free upgrade offer

I think a unique, opaque account id that does not require the user to be prompted is a good idea. If this was the "Roku Account" number seen in the "Transaction Details" report that would be most useful. It would also provide a way to correlate users who have more than one Roku i...

Re: freemium model with free upgrade offer

Thanks TheEndless. Yes, not very scalable. This technique did work well for a beta test, but that's a unique and smaller audience of early adopters. I agree coupon codes would be a better way to go and a pretty common practice. I've done integration with other API's (Walgreens QuickPrints for exampl...

freemium model with free upgrade offer

I'm been experimenting with a freemium model which consists of two channels: 1) a free trial (free channel) 2) paid, premium, version These two channels are essentially the same codebase, #1 can upgrade to #2 using ifChannelStore.DoUpgrade() and this all works fine. Now add in the wrinkle that I'd l...

Rokagram Private Beta Ending

Thanks to all who participated in beta test of Rokagram. The private channel used for the beta was never meant to last and has been taken out of service. The official, production version is now available in the Channel Store. Note to non US users : I had to limit the this initial release to the US o...

Re: Beta Testers Needed for the First Instagram Channel on R

I realize it takes time an effort to send in feedback. More than happy to give it away to anyone who helps is pretty much any way. :D Here's a partial list of features off the top of head: Slides shows of: 1. Trending photos 2. Local photos (photos posted around your area) 3. Search (tags) 4. Search...

Re: Beta Testers Needed for the First Instagram Channel on R

I just changed the settings to allow the UK and the rest of the world. Thanks for pointing this out! Please let me know if it works now. I don't know how long it takes for the setting to propagate across the pond, but I think it should work now.

Beta Testers Needed for the First Instagram Channel on Roku

I'm the developer of Rokagram and I'm seeking some feedback and testing. Rokagram combines Instagram content with popular music. No more squitting at that tiny screen! The channel is available as a free, private beta at http://www.rokagram.com . You don't need an Instagram account to get started, bu...

Re: beta testing a new channel

For those interested in this thread, I tried Joel's suggestion and created a private, free version. I implemented it by popping up a big notice at start up asking for feedback. For boxes > 5.1, I provided the option of sharing an email address (using ifChannelStore). I had a pretty positive response...
