Need a media server, suggestins

The only thing I can find is the WD Hub which is nice. Here's what I want; low power, DLNA, decent storage with USB expansion a plus. That's pretty much it. I don't like the media server built into my router because it's a bit slow and takes forever to update every time the router reboots. I could b...

Re: Postal Service backs off plan to stop Saturday delivery

I suppose a giant I told you so would be impolite. To be fair others here thought they'd ditch the plan also but we were all surprised they were as bold as to announce it. I had no idea that they didn't actually have permission locked in. See the other post for more but I still insist this is faulty...

Re: Warner Archive Instant launches (ATM HD is Roku Exclusiv

Skipping ahead Im not sure if I like this or not. Content aside do we really want more channels and more money? I'd rather they inked a deal with Hulu or Netflix and let me use that instead. Warner is a big studio so they could be the exception, but generally it's better to aggregate content than fr...

Re: Chaneru DLNA Beta avalable

UPnP doesn't use port forwarding. But multicast has to be turned on in the router. The multicast addresses are in the range 224.0.0.0 through 239.255.255.255 and UPnP uses 239.255.255.250 port 1900. Each device has it's own period for issuing UPnP Notice messages BUT they should respond to UPnP SEA...

Re: Chaneru DLNA Beta avalable

An unrelated (well semi-related) issue I'm having is with UPNP. My router doesn't always accept UPNP. It seems like if I turn my computer and try to start anything that needs port forwarding on it doesn't work but if the computer has been. running for 30 minutes or so before starting a server the UP...

Re: Chaneru DLNA Beta avalable

I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong Greubel but I think maybe you've put too many features in it, or maybe it's just not meant for someone like me who keeps things simple. Perhaps I need a "Chaneru Lite" ;) I get confused having to remember that play isn't really play anymore and that back...

Re: Chaneru DLNA Beta avalable

By default it repeats the same song over. Playlists are awesome but can't there be a way to default to album playback while still allowing playlists if one creates it? I'm not sure on this one. The controls are a bit slow to respond also. My opinion, and I realize I've just tried it a short time, is...

Re: Chaneru DLNA Beta avalable

Let me add that the channel is working well and I'm learning to use a server. Using thumbnails for example. I'm glad the channel scrapes for info because I didn't want to deal with that. Is there a way to do icons for TV how's so all episodes get the one icon? I tried making an icon named for the fo...

Re: Chaneru DLNA Beta avalable

I don 't like that the back button takes me out to main page. I'd rather it just went back through the folders. I'd also like the ability to skip selecting and just have it open the folders as they are on the hard drive. I sorted music, movies, and TV shows but it seems that dlna clients don't like ...

Re: Roku 3 remote losing connection after hours

Is this a sleep/power save mode issue whereby the Wi-Fi Direct doesn't get re-established? Or could the house Wi-Fi network interfere with the separate Wi-Fi Direct connection to the remote? Since the remote uses 5GHz, should I make sure the Roku unit uses 2.4GHz to connect to the router? The remot...

Re: Play back HLS streams

There used to be one but it never worked properly. The Roku has a very limited amount of codecs that it can support. What was the name of it? Mediafly?

Re: Error code 014 after ~15 minutes of streaming

Try this, scan the area for ssid's. If the roku is working it should send out an said, if it isn't the card has shut off and there is a problem with the box. Hardware or software is still debate able though as a similar issue is in the bug list now regarding losing connection and having to reboot.

Re: Aereo wins court battle ~ this could change pay TV

I don't understand why the networks care, it's their benefit to be on aero. Cable companies are the ones to worry about. Being that they own and fund network TV makes it tricky.

Re: Roku 2 HD Sound

Interesting ..well good thoughts. Hopefully in the future things will be better. As for my TV, HDMI and it has optical out but it doesn't decode DD+. I have no issues hooking up Roku via HDMI to my receiver, it's just went DD+ audio plays, its blank so I'd have select stereo anyways. So I just use ...
