Re: ESPN could be sold directly to fans

[/quote] Pro sports will still go on. But costs may have to be restructured if TV revenues fall. Wouldn't be a tragedy in my book, if player salaries take a tumble. So many pro athletes (even average ones) have an over-inflated sense of their worth to society. Teams in smaller market cities might ge...

Re: Good News: NFL about to release a new streaming service

Yes, sadly due to corporate greed it would probably be a hefty fee. And on top of that we would probably be forced to watch nonstop commercials as well. Of course the price will not be based a corporate greed. The price will be based on recouping very high rights fees for the games. Ultimately the ...

Re: Oh No! ESPN may leave SlingTV.

I'm not a sports fan, but if I was I'd be very angry at how ESPN has taken so many sports off of regular TV and onto cable. The worst part is that they show just as many COMMERCIALS as broadcast TV (from what I've seen in restaurants that show it), so why should anyone have to PAY just to watch it?...

Re: Best software combination to record TV and watch on Roku

Actually the plex server and Roku handle WMC recorded files very well. I have a ceton 6 channel network tuner and record all of the programs with WMC. I can watch everything but my HBO recordings with my Roku players.
Of course I can still watch the HBO recording directly from WMC.

Requires authentication of course.. Why you... !!!! Why?? I've always wondered why on these channels.. Load the shows in limited run, I mean they show commercials on these channels so why authenticate?? I've always been stunned by this.. I want to watch these but then you have to authenticate and t...

Re: AMC Networks Chief: Forget about an OTT Option for AMC

It will probably take several years of experiments with pricing and formats, and the old guard will die hard which is readily evidenced by Moonves thinking that anyone will pay $7.00/month for an OTT version of the CBS network with 20 minutes of commercials per hour of programming and no sports. It...

Re: CBSN Roku Channel

I worked in the broadcast industry. You have to pay the bills somehow, it's subscriptions or advertising and sometimes both. Profit is the difference between what you take in and what goes out. I think it's time to take a look at the other end of this formula. It's crazy what athletes and entertain...

Re: CBSN Roku Channel

I see this as a very good thing since it pretty much just constant news.

CNN, MSNBC and Fox News have all gone the route of some news during the day but mostly commentary and entertainment shows most of the time.

It is nice to have a channel that I can tune into and get just the news.

I think a Roku 4 would be wise to offer h.265 and 4k capability.

try just selecting the channel number on the remote control instead of switching to TV inputs.

Re: MLB.TV 2014 on the Roku

This not a Roku problem. I have had MLB.TV since 2010 on Comcast broadband and have had no problems for years. I suspect that if you are using a wireless router, that is the weak link in the chain. Try a faster router or if at all possible go direct with Ethernet cable. I have a gigbit router that i...

Re: Watch live cable on my Roku!

NFL would NEVER consider moving the Super Bowl to cable or PPV. The ad revenue would be between 1/10th to 1/100th what it is now! Of course that is not true. over 80% of the households in America have cable or satellite so a cable channel could at least reach 80% of America. Much of America also wa...

I use the great cable card tuner that replaces a cable box and DVR. I use the plex server on Roku to play back recordings. For live TV I have my computer connect to TV by HDMI.

Re: History, A&E, Lifetime

These channels are worthless. Fox too. Most anything you might want to watch requires you to sign in with cable provider info. If you have cable TV, why on earth would you watch these channels on Roku? Traveling? Most hotels provide at least minimal cable in rooms. I guess you see no benefit in wat...
