At that bandwidth, the sound should be decent, unless the DVD had bad sound to start with.

compressing dvd content for streaming is going to accentuate flaws in the dvd, unless the contnt owner provides the original elements to work from, and that is still no ward against encoding flaws. Netflix provides four streams -- ranging from 0.5 megabits per second to 2.2 mbps. The box chooses a s...

Netflix for the Hearing Impaired

http://community.netflix.com/group/deafmovieclub At the above URL, I'm organizing the hearing-impaired and their advocates to seek improved access to Netflix disks and streams. In order to help our advocacy, can someone from Roku describe precisely the capabilities for captioning overlay of the Pla...

The Xbox announcement seems to add pressure for Roku to announce additional partners. If they don't announce within a few days, I will assume that they are still negotiating for a "plum" partner. The CEO of Hillcrest Labs was on C-Span today, and stated that "Any device that connects ...

This really is a question for Netflix. I understand that Roku depends on the content provided by NetFlix for closed captioning, but it's Roku's bottom line profit that is ultimately hurt by the lack of closed captions in NetFlix streams, because at this stage, with or without the Roku player, NetFl...

Netflix needs to correct the bad encodes.

Apparently, selecting a different stream works around problems like this.

Had similar problems with Naked Gun 3, starting at the opening credits (after the pre-credit sequence). Was watching the 2.2mbps feed. Switched to the 1.6 mbps version, no problems.

At the Netflix Community website, I maintain a thread about website issues. I've confirmed the problem with 100 Women and reported it there. http://community.netflix.com/forum/topic/show?id=1993323%3ATopic%3A105189&x=1&page=11 [Edit: I've started a separate thread regarding errors in video s...

Re: Player: The good and not so good

Found the remote control to be a little difficult to open to insert batteries. Luckily I don't have long nails or it would have been impossible. I'll second that, especially since my dexterity has been impaired by stroke. I've experimented quite a bit and found this to be the easiest way for me to ...

I believe it caches a segment of the viewed video, then idles until it needs to cache the next segmrnt. It's not a continuous stream.

I've been using the hdmi connection for almost a month, and no sign of the issue you are experiencing. Try a different cable, for about 5 bucks. If that doesn't resolve it, your hdmi interface is faulty.

A question about Dexter. Just how gory is it? I am not a fan of a huge amount of blood.

The opening credits always make me queasy -- more disturbing than anything in the show.

But it's just a guy making breakfast.

I saw some sync problems in the film "Little Murders," the first full feature I watched after getting the box. The issue has not repeated, though, and I assumed it was a temporary issue on the Netflix servers.
