Ethernet Card Clone

Tue May 21, 2019 7:52 am

Several years ago I bought two dead M1000s. One had a power supply issue and the other had a  damaged ethernet card with many of the strips next to the board's connector torn off. I decided to revive the second one by cloning the ethernet card (without CF Support).

What do you mean by cloning?

I removed all the components from the original card (Board to Board connector, Ethernet controller , EEPROM , caps ,inductances and resistors), sketched an electrical schematic by following the traces on the original board and printed a small PCB with the same dimensions. I then soldered the previously removed components to the new card. In short, reverse engineered the circuit.
I did however omit the CF connector from the design because I don't have a second CF-based Wi-Fi card, and wiring the CF connector would require a 4-layers PCB instead of a 2-layers one.

You're not missing anything by skipping the 802.11b wifi card. :)
