Alackman,

Im not sure how I can use WMP on lap top to connect to desktop wmp?

sorry, I forgot that WMP 11 or lower can't act as a UPnP client.

I think we can rule out a general networking issue, as your network is working A/OK in all directions. Something on your Windows 7 machine or in the router seems to block UPnP-AV and DAAP (Firefly) traffic.

Which antivirus software and/or firewall do you use on your laptop?
When you "disabled" BullGuard on your desktop, did you simply switch it off or uninstall it?

Greetings

IT WORKS!

Im so sorry for not uninstaling this sooner - thank you all for all your support - all I need now is a good free anti virus software to last me untill pc guard is ready for windows 7!

Hi Alackman,

I'm glad you got it sorted.

I never used AVG, but have read quite a few positive reports about it. However, you could also try the new Microsoft Security Essentials.

What did you do to make it work?

I have latest F-Secure installed on my Windows 7 PC.

I uninstalled Bullguard and started using MS essentials - I am sure I could have emailed Bullguard the issue and told them that theoir software was preventing me from being ablke to access soundbridge - they might have got back to me with solution - maybe you should try to contact your AV provider?

Re: Windows 7 - Discuss all associated topics here please!

Hello All,

Is there somebody how can tell me that the new function in windows7/media player "play with" works with Rocu Soundbridge M1001?
My network seems to be ok,, I can see the Soundbridge when I choose a music file in my library and click the right mouse button --> "Play with" the Soundbridge
After this there will appears a pop-up with the information as selected music file and connecting the soundbridge, the last wouldn't works correctly and can't connect the Soundbridge
The old program VisualMr works properly.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there something that needs to be install.

Thanks in advance

Hi anneriek2907

On the Soundbridge, go to the System Configuration menu and select the Network Control setting down the list. Make sure it is set to enabled.

My experience of the Play To feature in Windows 7 is that it is unreliable and can take more than one attempt to connect to the device you have selected.

Hi Jaff,

Thanks for your message back!.
So as I told before, my network seems to be ok
The old program VisualMr works propel with my wired connection between Sounbridge and SiteCom modem/router (UpNp = enabled and static LAN IP address)

I think Microsoft make great promises with this new function but doesn't work,,, maybe lather after a software update,,, I'll wait :)

Thanks a lot!!

Firefly stops working and Soundbridge dissapears from LAN

Sat Jul 10, 2010 5:45 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm Alejandro, from Argentina, and it's my first post in this forum. I had been using a Pinnacle Soundbridge M1001 (software 3.0.44) with Firefly svn-1696 for the last 3 years. Recently I upgraded my system from Windows XP SP2 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, and since then I'm not able to make it work. Windows 7 recognizes my SB, it starts working, but after a while (from 45 to 90 minutes) it suddenly stops and dissapears from my local network (that is, it is not shown on the "Network" folder of Windows Explorer). The only solution is to reboot my system, and the whole cycle starts again.

I had already had this issue last year (still with Windows XP), but I discovered it was because I had accidentally upgraded the Bonjour service to version 2.0. After installing the old Bonjour (version 1.0.12) everything turned back to normal. Now I still have Bonjour 1.0.12 installed in my new Windows 7 machine, but the problem reappeared.

This is the last Firefly log:

Re: Windows 7 - Discuss all associated topics here please!

Hi Alejandro

Firstly, Firefly does not require Bonjour for the Soundbridge to locate it. You will see from your log (thanks for that by the way, most useful) that Firefly has both DAAP (the iTunes protocol norrnally provided by Bonjour) and RSP (the proprietary Roku Server protocol used by Soundbridge) services built in. In fact the Soundbridge will use the RSP protocol by design to communicate with Firefly. So I would uninstall Bonjour to see if that resolves the problem.

Having said that Firefly does not need Bonjour, unfortunately some routers do not work properly with DAAP and RSP network packets (usually over the wireless bridge) and you may find that Firefly is unavailable on the Soundbridge without Bonjour.

Secondly, the latest version of Bonjour for Windows is (or maybe was) V1.06 which should work on Windows 7 64 bit. Checking the Apple site I am now unable to find a separate download for Bonjour (presumably it is bundled with iTunes), I can find only "Bonjour Print Services for Windows" here. This is at version 2.0.2 and I wonder if this is what you are referring to in your post. I don't know if this package also provides support for DAAP, the description would indicate not. Bonjour for Windows is still available from other download sites if you don't want a full iTunes install. Perhaps someone else can locate Bonjour for Windows on the Apple site.

Hi jjaf,

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I tried both of your suggestions. I uninstalled Bonjour, but Firefly didn't even start ("Firefly Server failed to start" error). So I downloaded Bonjour 1.0.106 for Windows x64 bit (couldn't find any 1.06 version), and installed it, but once again...

2010-07-13 01:36:37 (6ecf4773): Error writing to client socket: Se ha forzado la interrupción de una conexión existente por el host remoto.

It just keeps working for about 90 minutes, and then it suddenly stops. I tried with debuglevel 9 so as to see if I could find any problem, but appart from being able to see the transcoding parameters, I got the same results in the log. The last error seems to occur with no notice and with no reason, and it cuts the connection between SB and Firefly.
As I said, this had already happened with my old Win XP config, but it was after mistakenly upgrading Bonjour to 2.0. Downgrading it was the solution, but now with Win 7 64 it is not working.

I should apologise for my poor advice, Bonjour is required by Firefly running on Windows.

The error reported by Firefly is being thrown by Windows. Search for that phrase and see if you can get some clues (most of the pages are Spanish unsurprisingly which I cannot read).

You may want to try running Firefly in 32 bit mode. I use Windows 7 32bit so cannot explain how, but again you should be able to find advice on the internet (e.g. http://www.question-defense.com/2010/01 ... -or-x86_64).

Hi jjaf,

Don't worry about your Bonjour "advice", at least you gave me something to try!!! :D
I googled for the spanish Windows error message (thanks for me telling me this is a Windows msg), and it seems to be a "connection reset by peer" socket error (Windows socket error 10054). The thing is, there is no simple solution to it, or at least I can't find it:

"Winsock error 10054 is "Connection reset by peer", or "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". The error means exactly what it says - the remote host closed the connection unexpectedly. This happens when a connection is aborted, and there is no tcp disconnection handshake (fin, fin ack, ack) , but instead a rst (reset) flag is sent. A reset flag aborts the connection, and can be sent when:

- The device is suddenly stopped, rebooted, or loses its network connection.

- The device uses a "hard close".

- A "half-open connection" state occurs. That is, when one device not been receiving acknowledgements of the data it has sent, or it receives acknowledgement for an unrecognized sequence or ack number, it will send a rst flag to reset the connection. This particular case could have a variety of its own causes, such as misconfigured proxy/firewall or network quality issues resulting in too many dropped packets."

This evening at home I'll try to run Firefly in 32 bit mode as you adviced, or at least I'll check if it's running in 32 bit mode. I think in the end I'll probably have to install Windows 7 x32. Could you please tell me if your Firefly-SB connection is similar to mine (releases, etc.) and if it's working as it should?

Thanks a lot!
