M500 Goes into standby after 10 min

Sat Jan 26, 2013 8:44 am

My trusty old M500 is holding its own and is integral into my home music system. However recently it's begun to drop into standby mode, just showing the time and date (not correct I might add). It doesn't go totally dead like some others have reported and the power supply seems to be fine. I just have to turn it on again and it will pick up streaming where it left off. I'm wondering could this be related to the AC power supply as well? Would it be worth replacing?

Storms causing power interruptions in your area?

A failing power supply could possibly be the cause. As the voltage drops, the operation of the components becomes rather unpredictable. I can't think of another good cause for the M500 to be dropping in to standby.

Thanks for the feedback. I was just reading through my older posts when I first got the M500 it was always turning itself on! Anyway, have ordered a new power adapter (3rd) party and perhaps this will do the trick. The impact of weather and brownouts in my area affects everything plugged into the wall. This is part of a system plugged into a UPS and conditioner. When it drops to standby, the wifi stays on, as do the rest of the components, so I don't think it's weather in this case.

As an experiment, you could put some opaque tape over the IR sensor to see if it's something triggering it. The only other way for it to go in to standby would be a network command.

As a follow up to others who may have the same issue. First, it wasn't the IR sensor, tried all that and thanks for the troubleshooting tips. It WAS the power adapter. I ordered http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006QZ7EKW/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 at Amazon and so far it's been super consistent in operation. Looks like I won't be shopping for a new internet radio device soon.
