Memory upgrade Roku M2000

Wed Apr 15, 2015 8:51 am

Hi,

I'm very happy to own a Roku Soundbridge M2000. I'm wondering whether it is possible to replace the standard memory module (16 MB I think it is), for a larger one?
Does anyone know if this is possible? Or does anyone have experience replacing the memory module in a M2000?

Looking forward to your answers, thanks a lot!
Bart

Hello Bart,

welcome to the forums.

memory module in a M2000

Which memory module? SoundBridges don't have internal memory (except some DRAM for buffering and Flash memory where the firmware and the settings are stored).

Hello dupondt,

thanks for your answer, I appreciate that.
I thought, better said hoped, there would be some kind of replaceable memory in this unit. According to your answer there isn't. I would like to do a memory upgrade, but I guess that is not an option.

Thanks again,
Bart

Just curious, what were you hoping to achieve with a memory upgrade? Are you getting an out of memory error?

My music collection is a rather big one. When playing all songs (Browse -> Browse Songs -> Play) the Soundbridge crashes and reboots when shuffeling all songs. Crashes and reboots also occur skipping to the next song (with all songs loaded into the memory).

I assume the playlist gets too big to be handled by the M2000. When I saw there was only 16Mb of memory available, I thought more memory could solve this issue. However, I might be wrong.

How large is the collection? What media server are you using?

I'm using firefly mediaserver on a Netgear ReadyNAS. Collection is 40.000+ songs.

Yeah, that's a bit large. Even if you could upgrade the memory, there's no guarantee that the OS would recognize it, or that the application would use it. There may be other bottlenecks. Consider using Firefly Smart playlists to reduce the load, though that prevents you from shuffling your entire collection, it might be the best you can hope for.
