Need URL for WGN in Chicago

Fri Jan 19, 2007 8:09 am

I know WGN streams but am unable to find a URL that will work on SoundBridge Radio. If you have one please let me know.
Thanks, Michimac

WGN apparently streams in Real Audio only, which isn't (yet) receivable by our Rokus. Others might know when a firmware upgrade might solve this...

Which means that it's Flash - incompatible to the Soundbridge and all other streaming boxes (and meant to be).

Snooper's right, this is not an audio URL but a link to Streamtheworld's player.

The only way to make WGN play on the Soundbridge is to contact the station and ask them to have Streamtheworld provide a WMA or MP3 stream and a corresponding audio URL.

need url for new wgn stream

Thanks dupondt.

Is providing a WMA or mp3 stream something that radio stations are willing to do? Does it replace their existing stream or offered as an alternative? And if radio stations don't agree to do it, what is their excuse - oops I mean reason?

Some are, some aren't.

Some Streamtheworld customers offer lower bitrate WMA or MP3 as an alternative for streaming boxes. WGN doesn't.

They don't want you to listen to their station with a streaming box.

WGN radio Chicago

Wed May 21, 2008 9:07 am

WGN radio in Chicago - I finally got it right.

The new Streamtheworld so far is more stable than using Real Audio and works great with the SoundBridge. I use Nicecast to broadcast the stream. I'm not a pro but this works for me.

Go to http://www.rogueamoeba.com/ and get Nicecast for $40. You gotta have this puppy.

Under the "Share" tab Nicecast will give you a local URL. Mine is http://192.168.1.102:8000/listen.m3u I don't know if it will be the same for everyone. Put this URL in the presets for the SoundBridge.

Go to WGNradio.com Start the stream. Go to Nicecast and click on the "Start Broadcast" button. You should be OK.

I struggled mightily with this process and hope I've written all the info you'll need because WGN is the best.
