Is Virgin Radio down?

Seems l ike it may be a coincidence but after applying the 2.7 upgrade, I couldn't connect to Virgin Radio.

So I next tried connecting to Virgin Raido through other means and can't seem to get a response.

Anyone know what's up?

I stopped getting connected to Virgin just before upgrading to 2.7, so that is not the issue. I haven't tried connecting via itunes, to see if I can listen there.

frogspong, where are you located? Would you happen to be in the UK? It appears that Virgin stopped broadcasting outside of the UK. It's gone from iTunes, and MikeRadioWorld has it now listed in the "restricted" zone, when it was not last week.

I just tried the "Virgin Radio UK" stream that is currently listed in the "Roku Online Audio Center" on my PC and it worked. URL is http://mp3-vr-128.smgradio.com:80/

I also tried it in a (different) preset I have for the same station on my Soundbridge; that succeeded too and the URL is http://www.smgradio.com/core/audio/mp3/ ... rvice=vrbb

I am in Australia BTW.

Can you please try playing those two URLs I posted above on a computer (ie NOT the Soundbridge) on the same LAN as your Soundbridge is on.

If the URLs I posted work on the computer at your house but not the Soundbridge, then it would very likely be a Soundbridge setup issue (or firmware bug), because they work for me on both. However if those two URLs also don't play from a computer on the same network (that can normally play internet radio), then the path to fixing it is more likely in your router configuration, an ISP block or a IP-range block by Virgin Radio (applying to your area/ISP but seemingly not to other distant shores), and changing any Soundbridge setup stuff won't help.

Tried both URL's listed to no avail.

Don't even get a DNS resolution on ping or tracert, so certainly does feel like some type of IP block.

BTW: Sitting in CANADA here too.

What specifically happens when you access the website for the domain those music streams are being served from. Go to http://www.smgradio.com and watch exactly what happens then post back.

For me here (in Australia, using Firefox 2.0.0.3 browser on Windows), that URL directs to http://network.virginradio.co.uk/ and down at the bottom of that page the last line of text says "You're connecting through (my IP address), in AUSTRALIA, to smgr. This is a peered connection." (then a link to click through to a page about the peering agreements they have in place around the world).

I'd be interested to see if you get the same redirection from www.smgradio.com (if it redirects then _it_ is getting resolved), and also what if any interesting information is shown on that last line of the redirected page (assuming it successfully takes you there at all that is).

BTW if the problem you're hitting is "simply" a DNS resolution one (rather than any deliberate blocking of the IP address range you are in), I resolve www.smgradio.com here as 85.159.184.110, so you could try replacing that in either the stream URL I posted earlier or your browser and see if that makes any difference.

Been preoccupied with other things for a bit, so havent been watching.

Tried Virgin again and the subect says it... It's up again.

Same presets that I've always had.. no idea what changed.

I'm now able to use:
Virgin Raidio

Virgin Classic Rock

and with occasional hiccups
Virgin Grove

BTW Ted: I did try the address you suggested today and was redirected as you were. That was not happening on the 25th.

All the other solutions didn't work for me earlier.

I couldn't get the MP3 stream to work last night (either Soundbridge or PC), but I added the ASX and it did. Maybe there's something fishy with the MP3?
