Problems with Israeli Radios

Tue Sep 08, 2009 5:15 am

Dear Lyndon/Ted:

I am having problems listening to most Israeli radios, they just play and repetitive music piece lasting a few seconds or else they keep retrying unsuccesfully.

Any clue?

I have always had the best experience with Roku Radio and its forum.

keep on the good job!!

Ruben,

even extremely well polished crystal balls sometimes do not work flawlessly, it would thus be very helpful if you posted the names of the stations having issues.

Problems with Israeli stations

Sun Sep 13, 2009 12:31 am

Dear Mr. Dupondt,

Some of the station showing problemas are:

1) Gal Galatz
2) IBA English TV news from Israel
3) Israel radio 12:30pm IT English
4) Israel radio 8:30am IT English
5) Israel Radio International
6) Kol Hamizrach
7) Radio Jerusalem
8) REKA Isreal Immigrant network

The list goes on. All this stations play only a short melody for a few seconds and then repeats itself.

We bought our Soundbridge mainly to listen to Israeli stations!

I hope this helps trouble shoot the problem.

Best Regards

Ruben,

Good news first: Gal-Galatz (Radio Roku ID # 12387) and Israel Radio International (Radio Roku ID 338) play A/OK on my SoundBridges with both firmware versions 3.0.44 and 3.0.52.

Kol Hamizrach (Radio Roku ID # 27774) and Radio Jerusalem (Radio Roku ID # 17416) do not play because either the stream URLS are outdated or the streaming servers are down (I can't tell exactly because my Hebrew is very poor).

The remaining four stations

IBA English TV News from Israel (Radio Roku ID # 17636)
Israel Radio 12:30 PM IT English news (Radio Roku ID # ID 27796)
Israel Radio 8:30 PM IT English news (Radio Roku ID # ID 27789)
REKA - Israel Radio immigrants network (Radio Roku ID # 17408)

are listed correctly within Radio Roku and in theory should play on the SoundBridge. Due to limitations (some call it a bug) of the firmware, however, Roku's devices endlessly repeat the intro jingle which is preceding the stream URL in the playlist file sent to the SoundBridge by the stations' server.

The latter issue could only be resolved by a firmware update, but as the SoundBridge is EOL this is unlikely to happen.

Hi Dupontd,

Thanks a lot for your fast answer!

I've been able to listen to some stations by waiting the intro jingle repeating itself for 5 times or more and then the station appears OK.My software version is 3.0.44 and when I want to update I receive a message that says I am up to date.

How can I upgrade to 3.0.52?

Best Regards,
Ruben

Ruben,

3.0.52 officially is a beta version, so it isn't offered by the update function of the SoundBridge. Instructions on how to update your SoundBridge to this version can be found here.

The beta version, however, will not resolve the issues with the Israeli stations.
