update on commercial skipping

Mon Feb 18, 2008 7:13 am

I spent some time this weekend looking at the problem of commercial skipping missing the end of the show right before the commercial break. The current code works by filling the buffer with bytes up to the break if there is a break upcoming and then forcing a skip to the end of the commercials. I don't think the decoder honors the request to play out the buffers when it then reopens it after the skip. I tried flushing via FlushStream first but that didn't seem to help, so I have set it up to keep filling buffers fro about 1/2 a second beyond the start of the skip. This works very nicely for SD recordings. I will check on a scheduled HD recording this evening. If that looks better too, then I will update the binary later this week.

update 0.82d

Sun Feb 24, 2008 7:19 pm

adjusted buffer filling in 0.82d to avoid missing the video just before the commercial break. Adjusted info box so that last line of a show's description is visible. After unzipping rename srcb to mythroku.app

I just started using the NEW mythroku with my mythbuntu 7.10 backend. I used to be one of the old mythroku users before James did his excellent work on it. The new mythroku is very very awesome.

Normally, I leave mythroku.app running and I notice that new recordings do not appear on the list as they are recorded by my backend.

I have to quit mythroku, rerun it, and then I see the new recordings in the program list.

Is this the expected behavior?

Thanks for an awesome app,
Don

It is supposed to watch for recording changes on the backend(s), but I don't think that part of the code runs correctly. I see the same issue as you do and I do as you do and quit and restart the application. When I have some spare time - which is rarer these days with job & family commitments - I'll take a look at that part of the code.

0.82g implements a true FF and RW in steps of 3,5,10,20 then cycles to play
pressing play during a rw or ff causes play from that point. Not sure if its bug free... but.give it a whirl.

Jim:

I have serious issues when using FF. The sound gets behind and nothing will remedy it other than a restart of the file.

I now only record in HD so maybee it works in SD. Can't comment.

I have gone back t .82f

I noticed it too on some recordings, I have some ideas to test. This is very much an alpha feature really to see if I could use the recordedseek table to ff and rw. Please try that version again. The fix I just applied applied seems to cure the audio issue for me on sd and hd. I think its pretty cool to ff and rw even though i say so myself!

I am adding a progress bar for recordings. Just tidying the appearance before release. Any other feature on people's wishlist

Thanks. 0.82h fixes some bugs I found in FF/RW and adds a progress bar. Not quite as aesthetically pleasing as the one in mplay but not too bad.
