I'm wondering if anyone here is fully up and running with TVersity. If so, I'd like some pointers. I'm about 80% of the way there...

I'm able to access all the menus both in the Roku interface and in MPlay. So that's good. What I really want to use it for is playing internet video streams and that's where I have my problems.

My primary reason was to get NASA TV on the big screen as my CATV company doesn't carry it. I'm able to successfully stream it somewhat. But I get audio synch issues, audio drop-outs, etc.

Additionally, trying to stream the TV from all over the world content included with TVersity is iffy at best. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.

It appears the HD-1000 is not officially supported with TVersity but it sorta works, so that can't really be the problem. I think it's possibly with the machine I am using or the transcoding setup..

I've tried it on two machines. The first is a 975 MHz PIII. Seems like it would be fast enough but I have a lot running on that machine that can many times peg the CPU so perhaps it isn't so good. On this machine, I've had NASA TV playing the best, but very few of the TVersity streams.

The second machine is my 2.66 GHz MacPro running Parallels. Given that it's a quad core machine, I figured that even though the OS is a virtual one, it should be fast enough. It does seem a little zippier than the PIII and I get more streams, but my audio and video seem to break up more.

So is it the computer? Or is it the encoding settings? I really can't find how to set the encoding settings. How does TVersity know to always re-encode to MPEG-2? And is there any adjustments I can make to the add-on decoder/encoder software that will make the experience better?

I ran it before my 2 HD1000 died. Running a P4 2.4 with 2 gigs of rams barely cutted it. Had stutter around 5% of the time. Aside the box, the only thing I could think of was my outside connection. Since I was running wired gigabit inside, the local network was not the issue. My ISP indicates a 7Mbps connection, so my outside connection *should* be ok.

What did you do with your HD-1000s? Do you still have them?

One got trashed ( that was before the great people here figure out all the needed repairs ). The other is getting dugged out of my basement to be sent to Matt for repairs.

Too bad on the trashed part.

As for the other - good deal. I'm sure Matt will fix it up good. I've personally fixed 2 bad power supplies now in my units and I'm happy as a clam!

As for TVersity, I think it might be the specs of the machine I'm trying to run it on. I've got my desktop here at work that I really don't use other than run BOINC. It's a 2.4 GHz P4 and I'm going to take it home tonight maybe and see how that works and if things run better. I work in a small company and I'm the IT guy (one of many hats) so it's not an issue!

I am looking for something a bit more powerful than my slug to run as a server. The MSI bare bone looks a good candidate, ITX form factor with dual core. Would be enough for trans coding and file server without wasting too much energy and fit it small places. Unless somebody comes up with a player decked out with a boatload of native codecs, I think thats the only solution ...

I'm running TVersity on an Athlon XP2400 machine that is also a PDC, and there are no issues. Admittedly, I don't use it to serve external streams, only DivX files that are local. There is a 108Mbps 802.11a wireless bridge between the PDC and the 10/100 switch the Roku is plugged into

I am using the ffdshow codecs (This pack has been recommended by many TVersity users as being the best to use for transcoding purposes, completely remove XviD and DivX packages before installing), and I have made a small change to profiles.xml in the TVersity folder:

In the profile "alwaysvideo" added <devicesIP value="<Roku IP address>"/>
