Converting 1080 HD WMA video to Mpeg2 TS for playback on PB

Wed Jul 04, 2007 10:27 am

Does any know how to convert (transcode) wma file (HD) to something the HD1000 can play. I have transcoded some AVI files using VLC but it is not HD (1080).

Any help is appreciated.

thanks,

Bill

This will convert (not transcode realtime via VLC) your WMV's to DVD's (MPEG-2): http://www.dvdflick.net/

VLC >WILL< do it. It >IS< bitrate limited though to 15360 for video. Just type 15360 into the video drop-down box, set your other options, and go. I know, the scroll list only goes up to 3072, but it will go higher manually. If the source is 1080, the output will be 1080 unless you have VLC down-scale.

It is essential that you have the fps correct to the original source to maintain audio sync. I have had varying degrees of success with letting VLC auto-detect the input frame rate, so I generally find out in advance and then set that manually too. The way I do this is by appending the fps I want to the bitrate I want, so I would enter something like "15360,fps=29.97" in the video bitrate box.

I have had essentially ZERO success getting multi-channel AC3 (i.e. A/52) audio in a VLC transcode from a multi-channel WMV source. True enough I get something that says it is 5.1 AC3, but the channel mapping is always goofed up. Hearing the main dialog from the left rear speaker is sorta weird for example. SO, I usually just let VLC transcode it down to 2 channel MPGA using 512 in the audio bitrate drop-down box.

Give it a whirl on some short tests. Fiddle with the video bitrate (I usually step it in increments of 1024, so like 5120, 8192, 12288, 15360, etc.) to your liking.

Converting 1080 HD WMA video to Mpeg2 TS for playback on PB

thanks to both scans and dgburns for the tips. I have tried the Cucusoft converter but they playback on the HD1000 is poor and the audio is not right, maybe I did soemthing wrong. I will now try the VLC solution.

thanks again I appreciate the help.

I am a newbe at the converting thing as I just got my HD1000 last week and upgraded the FW to 2.0.35 and play around with the Art pack. I love the box and have started downloading HD video for playback on my new Samsung 52"

regards,
