Bug fixed

Sat Apr 30, 2005 5:36 am

Well, slightly quicker turnaround to fix this than I suggested. In fact the bug turned out to an easy one to find (and fix).

So V0.5 is out, I would recommend that anyone who has downloaded a previous version of the codec download this new version and use it instead of their old version.
Link to download V0.5 is in the first post.

How are artist/title/etc tags handled by the flac plugin? On my music collection it seems that most show the correct tags, but some just show the filenames. I know those are also properly tagged, and after compiling flac/metaflac on the Roku itself I can dump the metadata blocks for the files in question and see the title/artist/etc.

Is there some additional limitation imposed by the plugin API?

Morbo,

The codec plugin model doesn't deal with tagging. Right now I'm just scanning all audio files for ID3 tags. Apparantly some of your flac files have ID3 tags in them which is why you're getting the info. I'm currently thinking about a tagging plugin system to support multiple tag formats.

How do you add ID3 tags to FLAC files..? My FLAC files do sound marginally better than MP3 through my AV system, however I hate the track name displayed as TrackName.flac and the lack of displayed tag data, so I for one would REALLY appreciate a tagging plugin!!!

Whilst you're reading Don...

1) Track queueing...
2) Sonata specific screensaver along the lines of andy's SongInfo...

Please

While ID3 tags can be added to FLAC files, it is discouraged, see this section in the main FLAC FAQ

http://flac.sourceforge.net/faq.html#general__tagging

I'd be very interested in a tagging plugin model - I've already written some code to retrieve the 'Vorbis Comments' tags from FLAC files and I'm in the process of writing code to retrieve the tags from WavPack files.

Yes, I'm thinking about a tagging plugin model also.

Ah. I thought it might've been ID3 tags, but I've tried to be careful and not have many ID3 tags in my flac/ogg files, relying solely on the native Vorbis comments tags. I ran into problems in the past where one piece of software would only use the ID3 tags, another would use the Vorbis tags, and yet another would read Vorbis tags, but if it wrote it would prepend an ID3 tag. It became a mess of non-coherent tags.

A tag plugin model would be great, or at least non-plugin support for reading Vorbis comment tags in place of ID3.

New easy install method added

Sat May 14, 2005 4:41 am

I've added a new install method for the FLAC codec in the first post of this thread.

I know that the installation method for the codecs have been a bit complicated up till now, but with this new method it should be a simple 'click and go'. Well, thats the theory anyway :)

As always, please let me know if you encounter any problems.

Seems to be working ok for me, maybe there was a problem with the server when you tried.
Have another go! :)
