so long roku hd1000

Thu May 20, 2010 8:44 am

I have finally replaced my rokus which ran mythroku foir me for several years. I got a hd-pvr and this records hd from directv in mythtv in H.264 which cannot be played back by the roku. I picked up cheaply an asus oplay and patriot pbo which handle these files through upnp well. I don't have commercial skipping or the ability to schedule but they are silent, tiny, and do have a 30s ffw so all in all it is not too bad. It seems that the forum is very quiet these days and I am not sure if there are any mythroku users left.

This is a sad day...
You were on of the last hard core users and software writer.
Thanks for all the hard work over the years and for keeping this guy going.
Will you still support MythRoku?
Roku3 and Roku HD1000 [Rev B] on a Samsung HLP5674W DLP in the living room; a Roku2 and two Roku XS and a few SoundBridges.Win7; Kubuntu and XP via RT-N66U, E2000 and a switch or two. I own stock in Roku, it's just all in the form of hardware.Viva la Roku

Matt, I am happy to support mythroku which will primarily be updating for protocol changes if asked. I wish the hd pvr recorded in mpeg2 then I would not have needed to upgrade my system.

Thanks for all of the work Jim. It has worked silently for me for a long time.

I went to upgrade my myth system and thought I had better check out mythroku's status only to find out it is now defunct. James, thanks for all the support over the years. It has been a great solution.

Thanks,
Greg

Greg
I am happy to make updates as needed. I have just moved over to these cheap media players that can play the h.264 output from my hd-pvr. Just pm with questions.

What hd-pvr did you get? Does mythtv schedule and save the recorded output? Does the mythtv talk to the directv using IR or usb/serial to change the channel?

Thanks,
Greg

I bought the hauppauge 1212 (http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html) that works right out the box with the latest version of mythtv (I'm using mythbuntu 10.4). I believe it is on sale with a rebate for $179 -a good deal.
I connect via the usb-serial route see http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Controlling_ ... p_Box_(STB)_via_USB_or_Serial between my backend and a hd directv box. I don't remember which cable I bought but it came off ebay for only a few $s. It was one the myth wiki said would work. Works fine with the perl channel changing script.
