I tried leaving a blank line, but that did nothing.
I next deleted all the files, downloaded new ones, and tried again. Still the same result. One thing that sort of surprised me was that the IP addresses I had managed to store previously were still there. I guess these are stored on the Roku? Is there a limit to the # that can be stored?
I don't get any icons with VNC6, just the generic white diamonds (or boxes). Is that correct?
Is the Clear Server button meant to remove old IP addresses from the Roku? If so, it doesn't.
The other log files still don't generate any .txt files.
Everything else works OK. I can watch slides, movies with MPlay, music with SlimRoku. The VNC directory shows up as a share. I can view the screen via VNC on other networked computers.
I have switched to UltraVNC, as I found RealVNC to be somewhat problematic on maintaining connections.
I've no idea where to go from here.

Are you specifying the VNC instance (the :0 after the IP)? I noticed in the set up script you posted earlier that you weren't. I don't know if VNCSix assumes the :0 or not, but maybe give this a try:
#!/bin/bash

PARENTDIR=`dirname "$0"`
cd "$PARENTDIR"

./storepasswd "192.168.1.100:0" "209130"

Dave, you have a lot of patience, thanks for keeping at it.

One thing I realized recently is that I run VncSix from a share that is writeable. Is your share read-only? Try making it writeable and see if things work better.

The directory has to be writeable for the ListServers and VncSixDebug scripts to work, so give them another try now.

At last, a little progress. I've found that the SetupServer.roku script is extremely finicky in how it is saved. It will only work if you use a fresh script, modify it, and then move to the line below the script to save it. Then it works.
If you look at in in Notepad, this is a version that ends in two square boxes.
If you reopen this script and then resave it, you get more boxes, and then it won't work!!
Anyway I've now been able to enter my IP address and password, and this allows me to run the Serverlist and Debug scripts, which are as follows.

./storepasswd version 1.2

Try :0 on the end of the address

OK, VncSix is running and trying to connect to the server you picked in the GUI (192.168.1.101). The server isn't answering at the specified port, however.

The stored address has no "server number" on the end. Add ":0" (without the quotes) immediately after the server IP address in your SetupServer script. For you it would be "192.168.1.101:0".

Try connecting to this new address and see if that helps. If not, you can try :1 on the end but that is usually only for VNC servers on Unix.

Please post with your progress, hopefully with the ":0" trick you'll see your PC on your TV.

Andy,

:0 is the answer. I can now see the PC screen on the TV.
Thanks for all your help, it is appreciated.
By the way, if "ClearServer" is meant to clear the server IP's from the Roku, it doesn't.

Yay! That is fantastic news. You are very welcome.

Currently it can only clear one address at a time, and the address must be specified ad part of the script. (./storepasswd -r {address}) I will add to my future features list the ability to clear all addresses at once.

Once again, I'm ecstatic that it is now working for you. Thanks for having the patience to get it all set up.

Hey guys, been watching the Dave and Andy Show unfold over the past few weeks and finally decided to give it a try it myself. :D

Thot it would be pretty neat to be able to watch my kid play Ghost Recon on the HD big screen ... :twisted:

The refresh rate won't be as fast over the network as on a local PC. I think VncSix gets only 2-3 frames per second (fps) over a 100Mbps wired network, so set your expectations accordingly. This is fine for web browsing and many other tasks, but I think watching video or playing action games will be unsatisfactory.

Check the settings of your server VNC program. Make sure it's using old or classic style autherntication (version 3.3) and that a password is entered that matches what you set in VncSix. (A blank password sometimes casues problems.)

Don't pick "Use Windows authentication". Don't pick Remote Desktop Protocol or RDP.

If this doesn't work post what the authentication options are and we can figure out which ones are most likely to work.
